I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not, but I drove an AWD GMC Acadia in snow and I thought it handled like crap compared to my AWD C. Since I've owned my car it's laughed at any weather thrown at it. I was actually a bit tense driving the Acadia because it just didn't seem to grab the road that well (felt slipping, and I wasn't confident about it's ability to handle stopping etc in the snow). The Acadia (and its tires) only have a little over 10,000 miles on them so that isn't the issue - and the tread looks fine on them.
Does this surprise anybody?
