Trunk Issue - Passive Entry Switch

Hey All,

Just wanted to provide the details of an issue that I encountered and had fixed through warranty. I've got a 2013 Charger Blacktop RT for the record.

My trunk was starting to randomly open when getting into or out of the car (even before starting it). Sometimes this would occur more than once to where I would have to go out and close it so that I could get going on my way. It never opened while moving though. After a little bit of research I thought might be the Passive Entry system and tried turning it off in the settings of the car. After turning Passive Entry off, the issue never occurred.

Turns out Chrysler is aware of it and has a bulletin out for dealers. It was in fact the Passive Entry switch (Part # 68087978AC). 30 minutes at the dealer once they got the part in and no issues since.

It's possible. My understanding, and I could be way off base here, was the part that they replaced was the button to open the trunk. My guess is that button along with all of the electronics for it including the passive entry are tied to it in one piece.

If your car is still under warranty I'd say take it in and have them check it out. I think them diagnosing my issue took 30 minutes, if even that long.

It was like the trunk switch button was sticking? They just replaced mine Saturday a week ago. Turning the passive entry feature off did not prevent it from opening for no reason but it never did it while I was in drive. They had the part in stock.
