I thought I had seen and heard it all. Why in Billy Bob Hell will a manufacturer want to shut down a site that helps develope a fan base for their product. It's like totally free advertisement.

If Dodge was to try the same thing, I will sell all 6 Dodge vehicles in my possesion and instantly become an InfinitiCustomer.

Stupid!

It is unbelievable that a company that caters to car enthusiasts would attack and offend the very heart and soul of their most avid fans - the WRX STi forum.

I am not completely shocked by this. I have plenty of seat time in their pro rally version as well as their competitors, as I was, until recently a test driver for a manufacturer developing a pro rally vehicle.

In the past 5 or 6 years the parent company has been less and less supportive of the competitive aspects of Subaru.

DCX, on the other hand, is moving positively to support motorsports and enthusiasts with their products, Mopar, the SRT program, amongst other efforts.

Perhaps the lawyers working for Subaru were starving and they needed work. You know about those starving lawyers.

If it was anyone other than Subaru, I'd be surprised. I'd read a while back that, if you purchased an WRX STi, Subaru would give you a free 1 year membership in the SCCA. However, if Subaru ever found out that you drove your WRX on a road course or even on an SCCA auto-cross course, they would terminate your warranty.

I don't know if this is actually true, but I have heard it in two or three different places now.

Really FUNNY, because the Far East typically violates all patent and trademark rules (witness China, the worst offender). They have copied and cloned and pirated our ideas for years -- have no respect for patent / trademark law. This is chickensh*t at it's smelliest!

I checked it out, it's all copyright and trademark issues and nothing to do with the actual forum.

These companies MUST protect their trademarks as part of retaining them as a registered trademark. There's nothing about shutting down the forum although it is a little over the top asking them to give up their domain name.

Paul.

I agree that a company has a right to protect their trademarks, but you would think a company would start with a far less aggressive means of doing so with an outfit clearly not intended to profit from it. I wonder if Subaru management actually approved that letter or if it was just the lawyer deciding to "protect" his client.

If I was a Subaru owner, I think I'd join the debadging crowd!

I would want my name and products out in cyberspace if I were them. Talk about free advertising. I suppose anybody wearing hats and shirts with Suburu logo's should remove them at once.

What if I am out in the front yard surfing on my Audiovox 6600, while wearing a Subaru undee. Should I strip butt naked for the neighbors on your say so?

Maybe the people of the forum are bashing the cars and Suburu is feeling the backlash?
Hey, screw'em.
Should have bought an American car in the first place.
Bomb them again I say.
Enola Gay has one more flight in her if you ask me.
(in my best DICE voice)...dat's what I tink! OH!

Ok, maybe I was out of line.
The Japanese have been our allies for a long time now.
They are dedicated, disciplned and proud people.
They need the money just like we do.
They go home to a bowl of rice and sit with their wives
and bitch about a hard day at the office ust like we do.
The difference is, if I have the CHOICE between giving my
money to an American or a Japanese, I am keeping it here at home.
There are some things that you just have no choice in the matter,
I mean, I don't think they build a TV in the US anymore do they?
...but when it comes to a $40,000 purchase, I want that to stay
in NORTH Amercia. Canada and Mexico included, but USA mainly.
F- the "global economy".

If you must. But please try to hide your "pink balls" if you could. ;)
