Replacing Alpine Audio System

Hey folks, I am getting ready to pick up a 2021 Charger Daytona in a couple weeks and unfortunately it does not have the Harmon Kardon system I have had in my last three Challengers. So, after doing some reading and shopping at Crutchfield I am preparing to install all new speakers (dash, front door, rear decklid), install an aftermarket amplifier and a box set of subs. What experience do you guys have in doing this? What advice can you share?

Thanks so much!

Buy the PAC Audio AmpPro4 AP4-CH41 and save yourself the headache of tapping wires. It is a T-Harness that is simple plug and play and will give you RCA’s for front, rear, & sub along with a volume knob you can use for the sub.

Next make sure you use OFC copper wires for power/ground/speaker wires, (example Knukonceptz, Stinger, T-Spec, Rockford Fosgate, or even NVX wire is great(from sonicelectronix.com)).

As far as speakers, the choice is plenty!!! My favs for cars are JBL, infinity, AudioFrog’s (if you want Awesome sound), and JL Audio.

Subs, I only like JL Audio 10/12 W6’s or TW3’s.

Amps, your budget……. Lol hope this helps some.

x3 on this. I replaced my dash corner speakers with the Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X3C and they sound great! The whole car hits pretty damn hard for a stock setup. Obviously not like if you added subs but I prefer the growl of the exhaust to the boom of subs these days.

Yeah the stock 6x9’s do hit pretty low, but choice is yours. The infinity won’t hit as hard as the stocks, and also Infinity speakers are usually 3 Ohm speakers which means amp decision will matter and the power level will take some math or a calculator to see how much power is going to them.

Other suggestion is look at other speakers like JBL (which is owned by Infinity but some is still same tech) their 6x9’s hit like stock or better. Just opinions tho….post up on how it sounds or if you need any more help.

Keep in mind that the factory amp has a channel for each of the speakers. This is significant if you replace it with an aftermarket amp because most aftermarket amps will be 4 channel. That means wiring 4 of the speakers into 2 channels in a parallel setup. The dash and door speaker on each side are usually wired in parallel to accomplish that.

That also means that the replacement speakers you choose need to have the appropriate specs to allow for the parallel wiring and given amplifier specs. Normal replacement door speakers for that Alpine setup might have 2.7 or 3 ohm nominal impedance and the dash 4 ohm, but if you're wiring the doors in parallel with the dash speakers, you'd want the replacement door speakers to be 4 ohm and the dash to be 8 ohm. You won't find 8 ohm 3.5" speakers easily, so that means going with components in the doors+dash. That takes care of the front channels and their power from the amp, but now you're got to figure out the wiring situation to connect those door and dash speakers to each other.

It's not a simple plug+play obviously, you'll want to do plenty of research and planning before pulling the trigger on any hardware is what I am trying to say.
