Replace Resonators with Mufflers?

Hi guys,

I'm really new to car modifications and exhaust systems and what not. I have a 2014 Charger Se 3.6L V6 and I did a mid muffler delete already. The guy at the garage recommended replacing my two rear resonators with two super 44s. So I bought the two from summit racing and I can't find anything online about replacing resonators with mufflers. My question is now, Should I replace the two resonators with the two super 44s? Or should I just add one or both of the super 44s to where I originally deleted my muffler; if so, do I delete or keep the resonators. I know it sounds like a pretty stupid question but I haven't found something like this in the forums in much detail either. Thank you for the help, I really appreciate any help.

P.S. I just want the v6 to stop sounding like a Camry and have a deeper and a little louder sound to it without blowing a crazy amount on a new system. mid muffler delete made it louder but not a deep tone. Hopefully whatever I do next in this situation will also make it a bit louder. Thanks again, and sorry again for the stupid question.

I hope someone can point you in the right direction, I called a well known performance shop and asked about exhaust parts for our 2012 3.6, there weren't any in their online site.
The gentleman I spoke with said if my goal was for the engine to sound more like a V8 I should forget it. Any mods he knew about would just make it louder and more like a european car.

Thanks for the reply, I definitely know that it won't sound like a v8 in the end, but I do want it to sound louder and deeper than a stock V6 (which isn't loud at all. it's completely quiet). I already have it louder with the mid muffler delete. Just have no idea if replacing the resonators with 2 super 44s even makes any sense. On a side note, I already have the two mufflers purchased.

On my old v6 I put a mid mount borla, to dual pipes out to 4" dual tips. Never had any drone. You shouldn't either if you stick with the stock size piping.

The borla was 2.5" dual in, and dual out. It had an internal x-pipe core. I also added a h pipe right after the mid pipes and cats. If your exhaust pops during deceleration then add an h pipe.

Thanks for the advice! In terms of the resonators, should I keep them or should i delete them and straight pipe into the 4" tips? Also, should I return my super 44s, or should I replace the resonators with the super 44s?

You'll eventually hack them off since you'll never be happy seeing how as a former v6 owner I was also pursuing the v8 sound.

A chambered muffler like the Flowmaster has the best sound. The exhaust flows through the mufflers and generates a nice sounds moving from chamber to chamber. A cutaway of a chambered muffler looks like a blueprint of a small house with doors and hallways. This is where your deep growl is generated. With that growl being nice and loud you are more prone to drone.

The resonators on a v6 are extremely restrictive. I ditched my v6 resonators and was happy. I went with a better flowing muffler though (straight through design) using the borla. There is ceramic or some material around the internal straight pipes of a borla dual on dual out muffler. Best flowing and it sounded like a nice tuned vehicle. It's like hearing an m3 with a high end exhaust, not ricey at all. Loud, no drone, nice sound. Some thought it had a quiet v8, most knew I didn't have a cheap ricer exhaust.

My advice, after looking inside my rear resonators off my scat pack/srt cat back exhaust active exhaust I have on there, is to out the mufflers in the mid position. If the drone is too much, install some 15+ scat/srt/Daytona rear resonators. They go for pretty cheap quite often. They are not restricted and large like the v6/base v8.

I stilll am confused about if replacing the two resonators with the super 44s made any sense. Is that doable or should I just ditch the idea and return 1 or both of them. And if so with the ditching that idea, should I install the 1 flowmaster in the center and cut the resonators or return both super 44s and get a borla as a center muffler and still cut the resonators. As for where the mid muffler used to be, it is a 1 pipe in 1 pipe out that leads to a dual pipe. Any recommendations for a model of borla muffler For my car if better than super 44?

Depends on what you want. Put both mufflers in mids and don't use resos. If there is any drone then use 15+ scat/srt resos in the rear.

Have the muffler shop run dual pipes from your mid pipes to where they would mount the mid mufflers. Not sure on clearance but they should both fit.

If it ends up being too much they sell resonators that are non restrictive.
