Tell your friend to try using Seafoam.

I do recall someone (I'll research) aftermarket making lifters, but many stockers living looooong lives on some high HP builds.

:Here is the deal. We build alot of Hemis and contrary to popular belief we do invest more money into R&D than anyone wants to give us credit for. The factory lifter does a great job. Building quite a few very high rpm and testing some more agressive cam grinds in our current hemis with better spring packages shows the stock lifters lack the stability necessary to keep them from collapsing. Those who Actually assemble and do alot of work checking Piston to Valve clearance know that on some cams we get away with less than .020 thousands clearance. How does this happen?? Because Dynamically the lifter collapses every time it moves. These lifters are designed to resolve that issue. They are not intended to work with MDS this is a Performance lifter for those who want maximum performance. The lifter does not rely on top fed oil making an entire new arena of flexability in rocker arm design possible. The Jessel conversion is over 10,000 dollars all in and in a few cases so much machineing is required the cylinder heads crack because not enough matierial is left for support. We are commited to bringing useable quality parts to the market. Someome leaked the lifers so we fugured we would introduce them. We are in the process of prepareing for some very heavy spintron testing. 440 3.0 is just around the corner

Not much to explain, go to store, buy Seafoam, use as directed. Pour it in the crankcase (where you put the oil in) run it with current oil for a few 100 miles or so prior to an oil change. If the lifters are sticking because of bad maintenance practices or neglect, this may help the issue.

Long story short....Bought a car for my daughter, 90 yo lady owned from new, 2 years put all of 30k on it and then it sat for around 4 years. Got it cheap, got it to crank and had bad bad lifter tap. Pulled the top end down, soaked in Seafoam, put it back together, cranked and after few min of run time, it quieted down to sewing machine status.

There is a star service bulletin out for this, and I'm hopefully going to get it done in the next month. My lifters clatter on cold starts sometimes too. I never have an unusual tick when the engine is running or at temperature idling though. My old 6.1 never did either. My old 6.1 did clatter at startup occasionally just like my 392 does now though. Apparently there is a little tab on the back of the lifter that can get bent on installation causing oil pressure to leak down and you get the ticking noise. Lots of talk about it on the Challenger forum. This was new info to me as of a couple weeks ago and I was glad to see it :)

Here are the last 3 pages of the Star bulletin... Hemi Tick or No Hemi Tick --- there IS a problem with some of the engines that are ticking. If your dealer/service tech won't research this for you, hand them this!

I haven't read all the way through the service bulletin, but I think they adjust a tab on the lifter that prevents pressure bleed down.

Best to get your tick on record with your dealer and express your concern and also that you would like this service performed. They shouldn't resist you from getting warranty work done.

Wow. Its been about a year since ive heard about those. Are they even up for sale yet?

Do you know of anyone using them?? The pic is for a gm im pretty sure. No mds if they are even out yet or if ever . Lots of big power cars use the stockers so im comfortable using stock. Besides the tsb doesn't even show its an actual lifter is its a rocker shaft install issue
