The service manager of Bill Harris CDJ just told me that they received a bulletin regarding the CD disc players. He said that they were told to tell customers to use only original cds because of laminate on burned cd could peel off and damage the cd player. anyone ever heard of this? I have a Rak stereo that jammed up.

I think it says something to that effect in the owners manual, or maybe that was in the Ridgeline OM. Either way, you'll be fine if you don't use labels. Just write on the CD and you'll be good.

That's lightscribe... really cool stuff. If you get the 'better' discs that have what looks like silkscreening on the top, you'll be fine. I had a spindle of dirt cheapies a few years ago that were just plain silver... just the plastic disc with some foil stuck on top. Wouldn't you know it, the foil started peeling on all of them within a couple months, rendering them useless because the laser didn't have anything to reflect off of. I only tried using them in a cd-rom drive, but I could see how they would F up your deck pretty good if you put them into a car.

The heat in our cars can eat up CDRs... hence buy better quality CDRs. I find that Verbatim usually gives decent quality... their DVDRs are top notch when it comes to the number of errors on disc (lack of).

Then again I think my RAK is a piece of crap... it ticks me off that I can't skip more than a few song without it "rewinding" or going back... Example: Skip 5 times and on the 6th time if I did all 6 too fast I will be back where I started before I started skipping. I hate crap like that.

Eventually I'll get an aftermarket deck probably after warranty expires.

WTF?! Is that how its supposed to be?

Keep in mind I dont have a RAK yet ... but will in the next few days.

There isnt a manual for the RAK is there? Or is that all in the owners manual?

Magma... you talking about mine??? It never did that for me... the only time it'd do that would be if the mp3's were in separate folders, then it would skip back to the first song in the folder after the last song in the folder... if it was all mp3's in one folder it'd skip all the way through, same with regular audio cd's. I'm cornfused.

Edit: Sorry, read that too fast... you didn't write it. At any rate, no, that's not how the unit is supposed to behave.

If you have ever noticed that on burnable cd/dvds that you can easily scratch the top and loose the reflective layer. Had a cd-r TDK with a buttload of MP3s and ran it for 8 hours on a trip to Chicago. When I went to eject it, the foil came off where the eject rollers were.

This is also why when laying down a -r you should lay it down topside up.
