I think given the issues with the pcm, tcm, heatsoak, etc..., there are way to many variables to accurately measure small hp gains for a single mod.

Dyno'd mine, then dyno'd it again with airbox off but the intake tube still on. Don't remember details but it went up at least 15 HP at the rear wheels. So I'd believe an SRT benefits from a less restrictive intake.

I had multiple before and after dyno runs done on my MSRT8 and the vehicle was up to standard operating temperatures for all runs The dyno was done on a dyno jet dyno and the numbers are relative to that day and the conditions of the test. The dyno showed a best relative increase of approx. 22 RWHp (hood open) and 16 RWHp (hood closed). What the "true" numbers really are is unknown. The A/F ratio showed a small improvement but there was still lots of room. The numbers are going in the right direction for me and represent an overall small increase. Airflow obviously plays a key roll... we need a good ram air design and the ability to fine tune the A/F and ign. etc.

I put a CAI in my truck and it gave me a nice gain in acceleration but it killed my gas tank in a bad way.. HAs anyone else expierienced this? does the CAI in the srt8 improve or reduce the MPG?? thanks just curious.

I have had a Magnum SRT8 and currently have a 300 SRT8 and in both vehilces I have realised a 10% improvement in milage when I used a Mopar CAI system. Approx 50 to 60 Km more per tank...

I've not seen any member here at this forum with an SRT get zero gain from a CAI. I've only heard that from argumentative folks over at another forum.

I got a 2mpg increase when I installed mt CAI, which I was very surprised to see.

From SgtStanko over at SRT8OC:

Here's to all the 20 hp CAI/Catback at the rear wheel claims

Check out this explanation of the maf and speed density system.

The other is an interesting Ford article I stumbled on. As I have stated in the past. Our ECU can not learn nor are they "adaptive". You either see a change in hp right now after a modification or not......period! These system are similar to the ones I have modified on Harley's EFI which are more alpha type but still you get a sense of what we have.. There is a set parameter that the engine sees and it delivers a set amount of fuel and a set amount of timing. You need a disc that will let you open the ecu and change those steps one at a time. Then you have to dyno it to see the improvement.

I might be wrong but it certainly seems that is another reason why no one can get into these programs.

And by the way dont flame out about the Ford article, the principles are exactly the same!!!!

Explanations and theory are fun to argue when you're bored but facts is facts as they say.

It has been proven over and over (W-H-Y is this still being argued???) that CAI's do give proven rwhp to LX model SRT8's.

Our systems are most certainly adaptive... why do you think Project Morpheus was SO important to us? (Besides the good nature of where the profit was going to)

Our cars learn and adapt to our driving habits. Our cars sometimes detune or adjust for aftermarket accessories. How many times do you need to read about pulling fuse 11 rectified someones problems, or gave them the power they initially expected from a mod?

so general concensus is that CAI+ SRT8=good.

perhaps DCX programmed into the computer that if xx more air is coming in that it should use a different program, that way they could sell their CAIs without modifying the computers, eh?

I have the CAI and agree with the concensus but I've got a different understanding of the adaptive learning. As it's been explained to me, the computer doesn't work to optimize the engine for given mods, it works to return the A/F maps and other tuning parameters back to stock - effectively negating the gains. I would welcome a more detailed explanation of adaptive learning from someone who understands how it was programmed completely - but apparently that information is closely guarded. To me it's annoying beyond belief.
