Heh been there done that; EQ and EQ2 nearly killed me. Forgetting to blink for literally hours on end waiting for that pop just ain't all that good for your health, ya know?
Yeah, I refuse to play anything like that where there's a subscription fee. I bought City of Heroes, then had to turn right back around and return it when I saw there wasn't a single player mode.
I used to play a lot of Diablo/Diablo II, but pretty much gave up on online play due to things out of my control (server problems, hacks, etc). My wife and I played D2 a lot over the network.
I co-founded a free MUD (
Carrion Fields) that is still around. Back when I was running it day to day, we'd see a drop in our player base everytime EQ or Asheron's call released something new, but then we'd slowly see the numbers creep back up.
I, like most of you, have more computing power on my desk than what they had in the Apollo rockets, yet I mainly just read various news sites and play the occasional flash game.
The boxes of unopened games should take a hit in the next couple of weeks - I just re-installed the original Half-Life. I'm going to play through that, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift before installing HL 2. That will leave Driver 3, Chronicles of Rid****, Thief 3, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
