I'm thinking about parking the Magnum for the Southern Ontario winter, and driving a beater for the season (I can pick up a 'beater' for about the same price as a set of winter rims and tires!). I'm not sure yet whether I'll drive the mag, but either way, what do you think about oil spray? I've used Krown and Rust Check in the past, and they seem to keep the rust down, but the also make the body (especially under hood) look messy as hell.

I want to keep the magnum looking nice. Should I spray? If I park it for the winter, will it rust? What about you guys who have kept lo-mile cars; did you spray them?

Whatever my dealership sprayed my magnum with looks pretty f'in nasty... but it's been over a year, nearly 18,000 miles, and all seasons, and theres no rust on anything save some bolt heads and my driveshaft which i'm sure flung all the goop off of itself pretty quickly. it's a petroleum-based something... sounds limilar to what you're talking about. based on this past year, if you can find a similar product, i'd say you'll be pretty safe, especially if you park it clean and dry, garage it and leave it that way.

I'm thinking about not spraying it and just parking it, but I'd hate to start seeing surface rust on everything in a year or two.

rsmeanie, you're living up to your name! It's not even here yet and I have the winter blues...

I took mine into Krown last fall for a spray . I told them not to spray anywhere under the hood , and they did as I asked . No mess , and no rust ( except the rear door "appliques " that I had replaced two weeks ago ) .

I got under mine last year and painted anything not painted or starting to rust with black paint. I sprayed undercoating everywhere I could as well. I didn't get around to doing the whole car, just the front half. Everything still looks good. Some of the undercoating came off, but I'll reapply it pretty soon. At the time I did the spraying I had @12,000 summer miles on her and there were several parts starting to rust already.

Wraith,

I swear by Rust Check. Started with my first new vehicle in 1998 (Chevy K1500) and it was still mint when I sold it in the late '90's. My current vehicles ('97 Cherokee and '01 Grand Cherokee) never got treated and they don't look as well as the truck did. I'll be getting the LX sprayed, putting it away for the winter, and driving the old Cherokee.

I like the idea of having a summer car. It will keep the km's way down and it will be around for a long time.

If you have to use a full body wetsuit all year, then I'm not sure you have room to talk!

If it keeps the car from rusting, I would probably use it. Just be ready for some quality time cleaning it in the spring.
