Car: 2007 Charger SRT-8 with about 17K miles. Mods: CAI, cat-back, Predator tune (currently running stock tune)
Ever since my last visit to the local dealer to fix the dreaded front end clunk, my CSRT8 makes a slight rattle on startup, before oil pressure comes up. It only lasts about 1/4 of a second and it sounds alot like a noisy rocker.
Today I punched it passing someone at about 30 mph and noticed it (obviously a little louder if I could hear it when driving) from about 3000-4500 RPM. It didn't rev higher than that.
I did it twice more just to hear it again and it came back both times exactly the same.
Any ideas?
I'm pretty sure they had plenty of fun in the car when they did their "test drives" listening for the front-end clunk, but this shouldn't have damaged anything. Curious though.
Just a side note... When I first heard the start-up rattle my first check was the idle oil pressure, which was riding at about 19 psi at 200* oil temp. I thought this was a little low and I was running the thin Royal Purple at the time, so I changed the oil and put in aome 5W-30 Mobil 1. The pressure is a few (5 or so) psi higher now, but no big change......and the tapping is still there.
I'm having a hard time believing it's spark knock, but I guess it's always a possibility. Especially hard to believe it's the start-up rattle. Timing is retarded at start-up if anything.
