Hey all,
I am in the beginning stages of talking with a dealership that has a Black MSRT8 and it has no options except the convenience controls on the steering wheel. No other goodies. He mentioned possibly $34K. Does this sound good and does it sound like I can work for a lower price?
Also, I am going to see what I can get for my RT in trade. It's an 05' with 10K miles, Convenience Group package, and Protection Package. Flawless paint and I have added, Mopar LT Ceramic Headers with Cats, Zoomers Exhaust, Hotchkiss Sways Front and Rear, Mopar CAI, Custom grill and chin spoiler and a few other small aesthetic stuff. What can I ask for? Retail is $27K for private sale. What should I ask for in trade?
Thanks for all the input.

If private sale is 27, I'll assume that avg trade is 24 or so. That's what I'd ask. Unfortunately, mods don't increase the value of the car.

Actually, ask them for 30, see what they say.

I honestly hope you get what you need for the trade..I tried that route last spring as was offered 23K for my mag R/T with 11k miles in almot perfect condition. Broke my heart and the refused to budgeon the SRT price of 42K...needless to say I am saving my cash for the Challenger..

I think it might be possible for you to do better.

I bought my SRT before (wayyyy before) the EP program was going. Mine was fully loaded with every option and it stickered at just a bit over $43k, I got it for $40k.

I traded in a 6 month old 06 R/T that had only the convenience group I. It stickered at $30k and I bought it for $28k. When I tried trading it one dealership wanted to only give me $21k and it only had 6k miles on it. The dealer I went with sucked it up and gave me $24k on trade to get my business. I know I got lucky.

Right now many dealers are bending the rules and allowing the SRT8's on EP even though DCX advertises no SRT on the program. Last one I saw fully loaded with everything was $38k.

Unfortunately dealers don't pay for mods. Unless you have something crazy that attracts customers to the lot (like vertical doors, high end custom wheels, crazy-expensive paint work) you won't get much return on investment. Perhaps if your performance goodies account for a decent HP gain giving them a dyno sheet might be good. It's the kind of thing they can slap in the window and get a faster sale on.

If your private party sale value is $27k I would ask for $24k and realistically expect $21k as an offer.

Good luck. The draw of the SRT is hard to deny.

LX SRT8 models have never been excluded from the program. Some dealers will honor it and will some not. Most should on the Magnum as sales have been a little slow. Employee price on a base Magnum SRT8 is $34,599.00 (MSRP $38,220). You may even be able to negotiate below EP.

Actually, if you catch the commercials the fine print always says "excludes Magnum, Charger, Viper and SRT models". The print ads in the dealerships also reflect this.

I know a ton of people who have bought SRT's at EP. The first month they offered the program the LX and Jeep SRT's were definitely included, I have copies of the ads. I wonder if they recently made a change. If you look on Dodge.com right now and price a Magnum SRT8 the EP comes up and shows the discount.

I'm not arguing at all that dealers are doing it... I actually said that in my post. I priced out a couple of SRT's recently at a couple of local dealers.

One word of Advice. If you do decide to do it your goodies won't add much.

Ask to remove what you can and resell. I just recently trade a mach 1 Mustang and took out what I could and have resold most of it now. It has allowed me to plan to add things for the Magnum :p

So I talked to the "guys" at the dealership..first I've been talking with Jeff..who said he would be my contact...then I got the call from Ryan, who said Jeff told him to call and get more info...then I got the call from John, who told me that Jeff told him to call as a courtesy call...then Jeff called me...Very amusing little thing they do.
So, I can get the SRT8 for 34K, but they offerred me $21,500 for the RT!
That was pretty pathetic...I don't want the SRT8 THAT much! Hard to believe I bought this car a year ago for ~$31K with tax/tag/title.
$10 K in a year...and only 10K miles....ouch!
Oh well...I told him I would need alot more for the RT...I guess I could try to sell it privately.....I've put way too much $$ into the mag to lose that much!
Sad day....

Not a sad day, just a "delayed good day" . . . keep looking and try working with other dealers. Timing is everything too. Go in on the last couple days of the month, pit them against each other. . .Just like your hungry for the car, there are dealers that are hungry for customers.

Hell, throw your car up on ebay with a reserve you'll stomach and then go in a much better position. Remember, they are have to make money on your trade too to be worth it for them to do the deal.

Oh, do all that and keep your emotion out of the equation. . . .easier said than done on that one for most people.

Good Luck!

I hate to say this but $21k is the average trade in price on an 05'.Pull your parts off and sell them privately. Some of the stuff can be used on the SRT.
I wish I could...I don't have the stock parts to put back on!
All have been sold or given to help friends out...
No big deal...I like my RT...just thought I would give it a try.
