I'm taking my Magnum to the track tomorrow (weather permitting). This is the first time I've EVER raced so I'm a complete newb. I've only been a spectator all these years. The guys from my Camaro board gave me some general pointers. What specific Magnum pointers can you give me? She's fully stock and loaded with every option so she's heavy as hell too. (I got bribed into doing this...I'm really intimidated by it)

A real track like as in road course or one of those - push the right pedal till it stops for 14 seconds and then push the left one - ?

You will be pleasantly surprised. Mine did 14.08 with 70,000 miles on the car. My only changes are tires and superchips flashpaq! Oh yeah, no resonators and um no air silencer. I think thats all.

ack! I am soooo stressed about screwing it up. The only thing I've done to my car is give her some fancy new Boyd rims for her 1st bday :) So now she looks a lot faster than she is. hehhehe

Spray the rear quarters with PAM cooking spray so it cleans up easier after the tire warming.

LOL, man - I think the car's gonna teach ya...

Seriously - relax. Don't be afraid to blow a run or two - everybody does. After a couple times down the track you'll have the hang of it, and then you'll be looking for ways to improve your times...

I got back up on the track for the first time in 20 years this past May, and I'll admit to being a little nerved up about it, but I LOVED it! Can't wait to go again!

And BTW, the car will "learn" very fast what you are up to and will SMOKE the tires on about the third try! On the third run, gently push the brakes and push the gas about halfway down, you WILL lite the tires!

Big Jim is right!
I totally smoked the tires and it was time for CAM to win on one run at least.
Those few hundreths and also the "That's OK CAM, I'll still hang out with 'Ya" comments were wearing thin!!
Now he's got the high flow cats and more balls than me to make me look like a granny on the road course at Willow Springs next month!!
Have fun, running the 1/4 is a blast!!
Oh, I think I was letting off before the trap. 14.11 was my best run but was HOT and HUMID!!!
