I recently purchased an 06 srt8 300. The car only has 7700 miles on it and is a one owner and is in extremely good condition. I have noticed that the rearend seems a little strange, it spins 1 tire all the time, its really bad in rain, cant even hardly pull into traffic without traction control running. Its hard for the car to get up my gravel driveway, and it i tap the gas pedal it just spins 1 tire. Although if i hammer the gas it will roast both tires. Is this common for this car or could there be something wrong with the limited slip. I have also noticed in the rain and very cold weather when i am backing up and cut the wheel all the way either direction its almost as if the rearend is so tight that it drags the front wheels and they skip over the pavement, this wouldnt concern me if it would always spin both tires or if it would get traction when im taking off in rain and other inclimate weather. I previously have had an 03 dakota with lsd and it did not act like this and i traded my 05 gto on this and it allways spun both also. Any thoughts, explinations and concerns would be greatly appreciated.

Uh, there is no limited slip. So yes, all of that is normal.

The front tires will stick/slip in hard cornering due to the camber of the front wheels.

According to chrysler.com a locking rear differential comes standard on srt models.

I'm not sure where you got that from on Chrysler.com, but no it doesn't/didn't. You have an open diff. You might be referring to the ELECTRONIC "limited slip" which is just your brakes stopping the spinning wheel. There has been no factory LSD for any SRT8 (05-08) up until the 09 Challenger.

Challengers maybe? Definitely not on the Mag/Charger/300.

Get rid of the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar Tires, if you still have those on the car, they're pretty bad when it's COLD and raining.

Try to find the Toyo Proxes 4...great all around tire for the money... :)

I think we can go a little more firm than maybe . The 09 Challenger SRT's both auto and manual have true LSD and the manual R/T also.
Didn't know about the autos, knew the manuals did. Huh... lucky SOB's

I don't believe that is true. Only the 6-spd Challys are supposed to have LSD unless there is a running change or something along those lines.

This from the Dodge Challenger engineer chat session and I have an 09 Challenger automatic and yes it does have true limited slip differential.

Dodge Engineer Chat Session:

Question 1) How was the half shaft failure addressed and can we expect to see beefier halfshafts on SRT-8 manual transmission cars being built currently?

Answer* We did not have halfshaft failures. The 2009 Challenger SRT8 were designed for a LSD and a manual transmission. We opted to upgrade the 1/2 shafts to ensure durability for agressive launches. We went from the 28 spline count to 32 count. The automatic SRT8 got a free upgrade so we could maintain commonality and reduce plant complexity.

You can see excerpts from the session in the knowledge section at Challenger forumz . com

A little more:

Dodge Challenger SRT8
The U.S. MSRP for the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is $39,995 (including $675 destination). The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 offers an available six-speed manual transmission or standard five-speed automatic transmission mated to the SRT-exclusive 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine that produces 425 horsepower (317 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. (569 N•m) of torque. New for 2009 is a standard limited-slip differential.

Google 2009 Dodge Challenger automatic with limited slip differential for more info.

I would post you the link but it says i cant post urls. If you go to chrysler.com and do a comparison by make and model it states the srt has a rear locking differential standard, im sure your right as noone else has said otherwise. I am just stating what i am reading from what should be a credibal source.

you're probably looking at the '09 models. no LSD on '05-'08 models.

btw, welcome to LXforums. :)

Its odd that Challenger reviewer complained about the lack of LSD with the automatic car if they really had it all along.

Also, I assume that the LX SRT8s still do not have LSD? What about the R/T Challengers with the automatic? I know that Challenger R/T 6-spds have LSD, so did they go with it on the automatics so they "could maintain commonality and reduce plant complexity"?
