so yesterday morning at about 11am i woke up to someone banging pretty dang hard on my door. now normally that time would be okay, however i had been up for about 35hrs straight from work and a car club event so i was dog sh** tired, obviously i know there was no way for the officer to know that. so i get some clothes on and go to the door where the officer is still pounding pretty hard. too hard imo but i understand. anyway open the door and the officer is a bit rude and snippy, asking me if i was the owner of the black dodge charger out front. i said yes, why whats going on? now i am always very polite and respectful even if the officer isnt. and he says that there had been multiple complaints against me or rather the car for noise and excessive speed. NOW to be fair 2 days prior i was doing some email tuning with johan and recording logs, but not in town just outside on a county road that isnt used too much and even then i only went up to 65 for the pulls. IS my exhaust loud?, yes when i put it to the wood it is. no one really around to hear that. so i inquire when and where the complaints were made i feel i am at last entitled to that. the officer didnt apparently know any information other then that he was told to be on the look out for a black dodge charger for noise complaints. he warned me rather sternly that if there were any more complaints about it they would have to issue me a ticket, but at this time it was just a warning. he made a comment about whether or not my exhaust was legal and i said i have resonators and mufflers. if he wanted to check. and then he turned and left rather abruptly, i was kinda baffled, i live in a rather small town of about 3-4k people. bored nosey people at that and a bored police department to boot. i guess as far as i know they cant issue me a ticket unless they witness it themselves but he left me a bit pissed off. i also feel that people in general see and hear a car, and if it sounds really loud that must mean he is going really fast also. so i laughed a bit on the inside when he said excessive speed how can anyone really know if it was excessive speed or not. I live behind the local high school and if i called in every noisy ******* truck thats wrapping his exhaust before and after school they would probable find a way to block my cell phone number buti guess i am one just to shrug it off. anyway i guess this is just me venting about it. i went to work last night and was told by my girlfriend that they came by our place 3 times, which is unusual because they almost never go by.

They are suppose to witness the violation in order to issue a citation. A witness to the event can also sign the citation but they will have to go to court as well

Ever notice that a Harley with straight pipes can roar past a cop , but a hemi Mopar is a bit of a cop magnet? I've been stopped in my Magnum a few times. The cops ask me if the exhaust is legal, haha. I always tell em: "It's all Mopar Borla, dealer installed, 100% legal, even in California." Always has worked.

In my area, you can't get an excessive speed ticket unless your speed is recorded and is in excess of the legal limit. As far as noise, i'll guess you can easily get a ticket with your setup if it exceeds the legal amount in your area. Without cats, ill guess your setup is very loud. I had longtubes with cats and a Corsa Sport and it was too loud for me and I could tell the neighbors didn't like it, just from startup and slowly idling through the neighborhood.

My fix was to put my SRT resonators back on, place of the Corsa rearmost mufflers. They bolted on very easily to the rest of the system. Its now a lot quieter but still gives a great idle, startup, and WOT sound.

OP, I had the same thing happen to me in my neighborhood. Almost to the T, datalogging and whatnot. Got a nice letter on my front door from the sheriff. They contacted me and stated that my neighbors are trying to press charges against me for excessive speed in a red sports car and my white charger. Now my charger was in my garage out of sight (but reg shows that I own one), I once used a stretch of bridge near my house to datalog. The red sports car was the viper which the complaint was filed for, and I wasn't driving, nor is it registered to me, but the driver did stop by my house one day. The funny thing is my little Kia Rio is red, and because my neighbor didn't get plates off the viper, they pulled the Kia plates instead.

Well, the officer gave me a huge lecture about how I could be charged, this that and the other. How the neighbor wants the press charges and has plate info and evidence (video specifically). In the end I politely thanked him and asked him allow the charges to be filed against me. Not only did his personality change from "pissed off teacher" to being nice, he immediately came up with multiple excuses to why that wasn't necessary. I said if my neighbors were that upset, and are basically too chicken sh*t to confront me themselves, they should followup in court. Didn't happen. Anyways for the next year, I made it a point to drive in front of the complaining neighbor's house each day in first gear, announcing my return home just for them. Without them ever knowing me, they have decided to put their house for sale. LOL.

People will always correlate sound with speed, no matter how slow you're driving. On my 3rd Charger and been dealing with this for years, hence why I finally got a dash cam.

About 18 months ago I was exiting the highway and I downshifted to decelerate. There was a cruiser with a car pulled over on the off-ramp so I moved into the left lane as I went by even though I was turning right. He chased me down and gave me a ticket for Careless Driving (most serious charge under the highway traffic act) because he said I "accelerated towards him" when I did the complete opposite; I slowed down and moved left wide around him. It was immediately after that incident that I bought my dash cam.

Had countless incidents at work and in my neighborhood for the same reason; people hear a downshift and assume acceleration because they hear the engine rev.

People are stupid.

Several years ago my partner and I were driving on a residential street posted at 25 mph. As we passed a group of residents on the sidewalk we heard "slow down, it's a 25 zone" I looked at the certified speedometer, it was showing 18 mph.

all good points guys. so to add to the hilarity of this whole thing, i went in today to the police station to talk to someone as i was told i could to find out when and where the complaints were made. the only one available to talk to at the time was the chief. which oddly enough he was the one that started this whole thing in a way, so i kindly asked for some more information about the issue. he said it all started through some post on facebook that he saw. someone made an angry post then others started adding to it. claims of 100mph and what not in town. he said he had a hard time believing that but said that he would take care of it. so thats how it all started, i actually laughed when he told me that. kind of ridiculous if you ask me but w/e. we talked for a bit and i narrowed down when and where it was and he said they had a hard time finding me since i was gone at work for 12 hours and then home for about an hour and left again for a car club cruise for another 12 hours and when i got home i parked my car in the garage and it wasnt until a day later my car was sitting outside and they found me. the chief was pretty cool about it, he said people were making claims you could hear it from 3 blocks away when i started it up and i said well maybe if you were standing outside and it was pretty quiet you could make it out. i offered for him to come outside and i would start it for him (it was still pretty much a cold start since i only drove 4 blocks to get to the station and it was off parked outside. i went and started it from him and he looked at me and said well that was not nearly as loud as i was imagining it would be. i laughed and said no not really that loud unless i get on it. i added also that i go to work around 5pm so its not like i am cold starting my car at 4 in the morning, and i get home around 7am and by then im so dog sh*t tired i am just comatose driving into town. i said it is no louder then every harley, or semi, or ******* high school kids straight piped truck. what made it better was a semi and a group of 3 motorcycles went by while we were standing outside talking. so i doubt i will be getting anymore complaints. now that i am done tuning anyway

pretty hard to deny it wasnt me when i am fairly certain since i live in a small town i am the only black 2011+ charger, and def. the only charger with exhaust to my knowledge
