the point of the sylvania silverstars is to improve the asthetics of the UNLIT bulb... instead of 'baby (rap' yellow... you get a nice 'silver' color...

I was surprised to see that they still flash as 'yellow' as the stockers and equally as bright...

I don't think they flash any brighter... just improve the looks of the parked car.

The original set was purchased for $9.98 + tax

installation took less than 60 seconds per bulb - no tools required.

EDIT: - The second video was taken 15 minuites later... durring DUSK - you can see a slight reflection on the hood from the ambient light in the first video... in the second video there is NO AMBIENT LIGHT and that may make the Silverstars appear brighter... My intention was to give anyone considering this mod a feel for what to expect...

I don't see them as too much brighter. I do like the fact that when the lights are off you don't see the annoying amber reflection in the housing.

why do you need them that bright?
LOL - stand down... The SilverStar turn lamps aren't any brighter than stock - they're just coated to make their appearance more subtle when off...

wbornio,

Thanks for the pics, it really clears things up

Seriously, I didn't know what all the fuss over the yellow bulbs was about until I saw the pics of the clear ones. It is indeed a large difference. I guess I need to get some of these for my fronts and then see if I can find some for the rears too.

Thanks again for posting the pics.

I didn't like the yellow bulb in the housing, the clear looks great, 60 seconds, I move a little slower.

you still see the orange side marker so why not keep the orange bulb? i think it looks dumb with the silver bulp because of the orange side marker still there. just my 2 cents.

P.S. the silver one is brighter. do a side by side vid.

Dumb..? How about something a little more polite... like, "I don't prefer that look..." ..?

Whatever, man... It never ceases to amaze me how some folks aren't happy unless they're p!ssing in someone else's corn flakes.

Nice sig, BTW... worthy of being repeated back to you...

Looks great, wbornio. Thanks for taking the trouble to post the videos. Those orange pumpkins really stand out like sore thumbs in the chrome-backed light housings so I'll be looking for those Silverstars, too. The side marker light reflector is its own thing and is something that's expected to be there anyway, so it doesn't offend MY eyes.

Did you do the tailight signals, too?

y'know... I kinda like the orange look inside the reflector area on the back.

I have silver bulbs in the front myself, but they aren't Silverstars. Given that brand's rep I wouldn't have chosen that personally, but then again my silvery ones are not as bright as stock by a fair margin.

I love the look of silverstars, they are a much higher quality bulb compared to the OEM, you did a great job, now do the blinker mod. If you install silverstar driving lights, you must do the fogs IMO to match the color change.

That's where you get a silver sharpie and color the socket w/ the pen, works like a champ:

I don't have the SilverStars and got these from 'prostreetlighting' on Ebay. Not sure what brand they are?

Fronts are: 3457AST Silverstar signal lighting. I like the look of the silver vs. amber, but I went a different way: all frosted LED bulbs that light up the appropriate color. I can post pics if anyone cares to take a gander.
