best I have ever gotten on my SXT was 19 mixed and 22 highway. if your looking at just gas mileage and cost isnt a factor... the RT's getter better mixed mileage than the v6's. Some people get better mileage in their SRT8's than even the v6's... go figure

Please don't buy a SE, no matter what the deal is. At least buy the SXT or better yet, the RT. If gas mileage means that much to you, buy a V6.
The Hemi can get good mileage, if you drive it normal and get a Superchips Flashpaq. I drove my RT today here in Florida (hot & humid) the A/C was full on, at 75 MPH, I got 22 MPG..........

At 55 MPH, no A/C, using cruise control, I get 30 MPG.

Very happy Hemi owner,

I have about 5K miles on my RT. In mixed driving, ranging from 30 mph roads to highway, I've seen about 22 mpg. I have seen 25 on the EVIC during highway driving. I find that using the cruise control really helps.

For the performance and comfort of the car, I'm pleased with the mileage.

My Rt get 15 city 25 hwy on cruise control 75mph a/c on.
BTW, you can lower all EPA numbers by 2 mpg in order to get real gas mileage figures.
Worst discrepancy I've ever heard of was the prius with 60mpg EPA vs. 40mpg real numbers. EPA gas mileage testing sucks big time.

The SE's are fine cars and there are many here that have them. They will get the best mileage if it's flat open driving. Otherwise, the 2.7 has a harder time pulling this heavy of a car and in those situations the larger engines (even the R/T) get better mileage. Of course the SE's may give you a lower insurance rate - but not much usually. Obviously an SE or SXT will cost less upfront as well.

I know firsthand about this, as my full size Chevy has a 4.3 V6. It gets worse mileage than a 5.7 V8 does since it has to work harder to get the job done. I didn't make that mistake again when I bought the Mag.

Again, all the LX cars are great and you will likely be happy with whichever you purchase.

2.7 = not enough power.
lol, i drive a chevy aveo with 103hp+7hp(mods)=110hp, and the funny thing is the SE has batter weight to power ratio.

and in 17 years old, and i can barly aford a used SE with low milege, and i thing you guys will agree that its better to drive a base magnum then top of a line Aveo.

by the way, thank you guys for your help.

my case is, i got my aveo LT aka Suzuki Swift+S for $18 000 CDN, now i have a chance to sell it to a family member for $15 000, and get another car, i always loved the 300C, but can't aford it just now. I will buy one when i graduate from university, and get a "real" job. So now i will have 15 grand to spand on a car, so im thinging about a magnum SE ( there is one for $13 000 and only 12 000KM), and im also considering a chrysler concorde LXi with a 3.5L, or a Chrysler/Dodge Intrepid ES with a 3.5L do any of you guys have any experiance with thouse cars?

but i still think it better to drive a base LX car then middle trim of a LH car.

Not so.
One person claimed to get 25.9 highway. Once. I get around 16 mixed and have hit 19 hwy.
You don't buy an SRT product for MPG. You buy it for SPM: Smiles Per Mile. And I get plenty.
Last time I was visiting my grandkids in the islands, my rental was an SE. OK in the islands. Top speed anywhere is 55. The SE is a wheezer. Most car reviews also state it is under powered. As a former owner of a VW van (before hippies) I know underpowered.

We had a '97 Chrysler LHS with a 214 hp 3.5 that typically got 28-32 mpg. That's the same base as the Concorde or Intrepid. We've now got a Charger R/T with the 5.7. This past Monday went on a short 200 mile round trip on the interstate. Kept the cruise on 70 mph & ran the ac. We average 27.5 mpg by calculator.
Think I'd rather have an LX with a 3.5 than an LH with a 3.5. Although I was happy with the LHS.

i've never driven a SE magnum, but if you're used to an aveo...go take it for a spin, you might find it has enough power for you. if that's the case rock it out. you can probably find some used RT rims on here for cheap and then no one but you will know lol. (i know there are other tells but most people will just look at the rims and go oh neat!)

a magnum is a magnum. if an SXT isn't that much out of the question see if you can't sell the car, work for a few months and drive somebody else's beater while you save up. or as i learned shortly after being your age, nice cars and college don't mix. buy a beater, get your partying out, save up and get something you really want.

i just had this convo with my 16 y.o. cousin who was complaining about not having a car. at 16 i got a large cash settlement for an accident i was involved in and blew it all on a 1999 loaded cougar in 2001, nice car don't get me wrong. well i drove it in highschool for a year and a half then went to college and it sat at home collecting dust for 2 years. a year after that and it's worth 6k now. if i would have kept my beater i could have paid cash for my R/T, still had thousands in the bank (extra money spent on insurance on a nice car as a kid instead of a beater), and not had $450 payments.

i hope this helps, whatever you decide you're welcome here and we'll be happy to BS with you!

Some of you have probably read this from me here before, but definitely DON'T buy the SE for mileage. My work car is an SE which gets regular Mobil 1 oil changes (5w20) and I've NEVER got better than 24 highway - usually get 22. Most of my driving is on I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson with cruise control set at 75-80. The RT gets 24-25 and I have friends with SXTs getting 24-26. The reasons to buy the SE are insurance savings and less initial cash outlay, period. The SE may get 21/28 at 55mph, but I've never seen it.
