Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to put a set of 6.1 heads and intake on?To make this work you would have to make spacers for the stock intake on the 5.7 if you milled the heads enough to get 10.5.Not to mention how badly your gonna throw off the valve train geometry. And you may risk piston to valve contact.

no, no and no.

Maybe we can't get ALL of 10.5 but its being worked on now. Maybe 10.2

i think i already spoke up once about raising compression. if your doing the head work already, why not just weld up some more squish pad on the 5.7 head. its easy, will work all day and you wont jack up the geometry....

.030

i went .050 on the TA with the stock heads. went from 10.1 to about 11.3 i think. i went with smaller rods as well though.

i would think that .010-.020 would be plenty safe. dont take my word for it. only thing you can do is try it and then clay it to make sure you have clearance.

however, only raising the compression a little wont do much for power. i think its like 2%hp for every full point of compression. and the lower the compression you will see more gains.

il snap a pic for you guys that have not seen a stock chamber. show you the area im speaking about. a welder plus a .20 cut is what i think would bring the compression online with what i think he is after.

my question is this. did he get the issue he had in the upper rpm range fixed? the float/spring issue or what ever it turned out to be??

So you know something I don't about milling?Taking off enough material will essentially move the intake mounting sufaces further apart, and the composit intake can't be machined to fit.

i took .050 off my LS1 heads and the composit intake fit fine. do they have the rubber o-rings around the intake ports on the hemi intake like the ls1 intake has?

milling the heads is $120. that is a lot cheaper than buying 6.1 heads, 6.1 intake, and 6.1 headers. you will have to look at the motor, it isn't a SBC. geometer and clearance will not be a problem. i can do my own port work.
I know it's not a SBC.I have done many Hemi's in the past.I think you may have an issue with the intake if you mill too much. That's my opinion,I hope you prove me wrong.

Mill the heads and valves and pistons could come in contact. Someone already did this with mild CAM lift didn't they? This demonstrates the unusual value train angle in the Hemi motor, it doesn't compare to what you can do with a Small Block Chevy.

If you eventually plan to add a blower, then don't you want to LOWER the compression?

Kelly and I were discussing how much you could mill before you have intake issues............I can't remember what the exact # was, but you could increase it but I don't think you could get all of 10.5, I think it was around 10.0 - 10.2

almost seems worthwhile to possibly go with some custom pistons, then again there is only so much you would be able to gain before getting too close to the valves.

/\ /\ /\ /\ /\ what he said. thats how i found out i had a broken piston on my TA :( went to fill the cylinder up to pull the springs off, and it wouldnt lol.

BBH brings up a good point about the heads. they are a completely different design than the ls1 heads. not sure how that would effect anything. dont the 5.7s have domed pistons though?

i havent seen negative DA in a while, but as soon as i do, im out there! i need to get the TA into the 10s and the mag into the 12s :)
