I got my RT Magnum a year ago. My friend and associate who is quite the gearhead was impressed enough to buy himself a hemi Charger. One thing I would change on my car, if I could, I would have a manual transmission. Even living in the city I prefer the control. So I was complaining to my boy about the trans being half a self-shift;it will hold in a gear and not upshift but will always downshift under any load. He tells me his Charger will stay in any gear even floored, like a manual. I didn't truly believe till we went for a ride. And so it was. We wondered: it it a computer chip? Can it be swapped on my '06 Magnum? It seems unlikely Chrysler would build mechanically different transmissions for the same drivetrain. He bought the Charger with a performance upgrade, 10 more hp and better trans, not available on the Magnum to my knowledge. So how about it? Can I make the mod? This is the place to find out for sure. Thanks.

Buy the super chips tuner, that will solve your woooooo's for ya. At this point this is no other product that will. You can go to the vendor isle (Super Chips) and look up everything you will want to know.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

I need some clarification. Are you referring to the Autostick Mode? By upshift I assume you mean going from 1 to 2. By downshift you mean from 2 to 1. Is that correct?

When I use Autostick in my stock 2005 Magnum R/T it holds until redline and then shifts to 2. Have you tried taking off from a stop in 1, run it out to 5,800 and see what it does? If your is not shifting up then you might have a problem. I am not sure what you mean by downshifting under load. I know that when in D and using the cruise, if I encounter a hill it will downshift to maintain speed. I have not noticed it doing that in D because by reflex I give it more throttle and make it downshift. I do notice that if I start in 2, do not hit redline and then ease off or even come to a stop it stays in 2 until I change it or go into R which upun shifting back to forward kick the tranny back into D.

Maybe I can help to clarify what Fred needs to know. I took Fred for a ride in my '06 r/t Charger. Mine is equipped with the r/t performance package, which has a modified shift program. This means that I can manually downshift to 3rd gear at let's say, 40mph, and floor the accelerator, and the trans will stay in 3rd instead of droping down to 2nd, like it would do in Drive mode. So, I can actually hold my car in any gear I want with the pedal floored, like a stick shift, when I'm in manual mode. Freds' magnum downshifts to 2nd even though he's holding the auto-stick in 3rd. So he's looking to have the same shift program that the Charger Daytona-r/t performance models use.

And the only way of getting that tune is with the SC tuner. this is the same problem that all of us guys had in the past..........fricking annoying isn't it.

So what exactly is the difference between our cars? How did Chrysler change the shift parameters? If SC tuner can change it it must be controlled by a chip and can that chip be replaced? I don't know but I am curious. CAM.. I did check out the SC page on the vendor forum, thank you. It does what I want and much more so that could be the way I go.

The tune is in the PCM programming, at this time it cannot be changed. The Jet chip II will firm up the shifts and make them more consistant, but you still do not get the gear hold function I think you're looking for. Or you can wait untill project morpheus is released.
