Well my CenCal family I have to share this with you.. My wife and I went to the pound in Sac on Saturday and picked out a puppy for my daughter. He was a Jack Russell/Pit Bull mix.. I know a strange combination. We picked him up from the vet on Monday after getting spayed and today we had to take him to the vet because he kept getting sick. We found out tonight we had to put him down due to him having Parvo. My daughter is going to be crushed in the morning... Wow I did not expect this!!

Thanks for listening

bubba....that is such terrible news for all of you. I just can't understand the whole parvo thing but know it's a devastating disease. Your loss is greatly felt and the emptiness for your daughter's little buddy is going to need lots of TLC. :huddle: I'm here for you.

Prayers sent your way....

I feel for ya man. My wife once got a kitten, just to find out a few days latter it had feline lukemia, and had to be put down. I'm not sure what's worse, the disappointment when the pet is new and everyone is excited about it, or after it has been in the family for years? Not fun either way.

Very sorry to hear this, it wasn't long ago we had to do the same thing.
A friend posted this poem and it helped alot I hope it can help you too

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this--the last battle--can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close--we two--these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I had to do some time working at the Cherokee County Humane Society (don't ask) not long ago, and that Parvo stuff is real bad medicine indeed - it doesn't take all that long to spread and symptoms can take a bit to show up.

I'd be cleaning every and anything that pup came into contact with with a nice stiff bleach solution as well.

Sorry to hear of the troubles, once you get attached to a pet, there isn't much that can break your heart faster than losing it.

Sorry to read this Bubba.

Please make sure you inform the shelter you adopted Chopper from. They'll take precautions to ensure they contain/prevent further spreading of it.

Don't let this dissuade you from pounds in general. So many good pups need homes like yours.
