I use an equal amount of a plastic pry tool and "colorful" language. It usually responds by either shooting across the garage or breaking. LOL. They are a PITA to remove.
Yup... "removed", meaning broke, mine... every last one of them. If and/or when you replace the insulation, go to NAPA for replacement clips... the dealer prices are obscene for such a little piece of plastic.
I got all mine off without breaking any and then reused them.
I used two flathead screwdrivers, a smaller one to push firmly in the center of the clip and the other to pry up gently to pop them out.
Worked great for me back in the summer, but they might be a little brittle in this cold weather.
I had to pull mine to repair the washer hose. I had about a 50% success rate on removing the clips. I replaced mine with the multi-use plastic rivets you can get at the auto parts store. I was a little concerned since they had a much smaller head diameter than the original ones. That has not been an issue though for over a year. I can now easily remove and install my hood pad. I can actually pull it now to clean it...LOL
Good news - Partsource has the clips and they're reasonably priced.
Bad news - broke every one of the fokkers and the cost to replace a washer nozzle (which is what started this whole project) is +/- $30.
$30 for that little piece - what a load of ****!
Was this just to replace the washer nozzles? I managed to do both on the Magnum by just removing like 2 of the clips and getting a little dirty reaching underneath the insulator pad.
Oh well, at least you sourced the new clips cheap.
Yup, and I wanted to see what else was under there as I need to hide some wiring for a small LED worklight that I have mounted in the hood and possibly clean the material. Next time, I will just remove the few clips required.
So...how does one normally clean the underhood fabric?
Thanks. Actually, if you could get some thin vinyl and sprayable contact cement, you could just wrap the original material with the vinyl. If it was thin enough, it would assume all the contours of the original piece and would be easy to wipe clean.
I did this with some black vinyl I got from a fabric store. The damn thing stays clean and if it does get a few spots on it ,simply wipe off. Makes the under hood look soooo much better.
So good end to the story. The washer nozzle was only $20 (Thanks AdamC!) and I found push pin type fasteners for $0.78 each at Partsource - I think Advanced Auto Parts for you're guyz in the US.
Howd you break the washer nozzle? I was power washing and I think I may have broken it as the driver side doesnt spray and the passenger side just trickles....
The nozzle cracked so it was leaking fluid onto the insulation mat each time it was used. Not sure what caused the crack but if I had to guess, I would say a snow brush.
Hmm... the nozzles seem fine, maybe I blew a connector off? getting under the insulation is a PITA x.x...
