the auto stick is pretty useless...as any one could guess..

the shifter is fairly easy to use once you drive it about one week. allows you to drop into drive from reverse in a hurry...if needed...hint hint..

the stealth mode for the interior lighting is kewl...

i dont feel the exhaust note is much less than a stock r/t either. with age, anything gets louder. they are for sure not as loud as a daytona cat back tho.

i love the seating. they have been most comfortable. better than the ford piece in my opinion. ford seats tear easy with the gear you wear. these have held up.

one note or complaint i have is the clunk i have in the cars suspension. its either that front suspension or a exhaust system rattle. its so hard to actually tell for sure. have had it since the car was delivered.

the car needs a little more window in my opinion. lower the door frame a inch so you have a greater field of view...but this would affect everyone..prolly wont happen.

have topped this thing out also. car has more in it for sure. speed limiter shuts you down with gear in the car at 152 indicated. for sure has more. at 148 she comes back on and pulls hard back to that 152 again.
dont ask me how i know..remember, the light bars cost you speed..as does a spotlight.

turning radius is for sure better than the ford.

handling is similar.

steve

yes, the esp system shuts down completely. the factory police book supplied with the car states its for your off roading pleasure.

dont have time in a real world eviroment to use it like that tho. you would need to "expect" something..

Unless your talking about aftermarket replacements, there currently is no recalls for LX cop steel wheels. Only wheel recall I ever heard of was on the Crown Vics. There is also no LX cop cars with a 6.1L. Not yet at least. Unless you've opened a hood of one and actually seen a 6.1L, then I would find it hard to believe one exists. Only way would be a test mule, which could be plausible in Michigan, but the DCX reps. won't let you near one to open the hood and find out. Another consideration, they could be buying SRT8's as undercover cars.
Our provincial sheriff's department has 4 - 6.1L Chargers in their fleet and they came from Dodge as police vehicles with all the required equipment to qualify as a police vehicle in Canada, also the RCMP have a few on the road already.

Probably due to the fact they are all built in Canada is the reason we have them first:pepper:

Post some pics. of the cars, the engines also. I'd like to see if there's been some sort of change that DCX hasn't mentioned yet.

ive went through all the codes and items when ordering the car. i have nevere heard or seen anything about a 6.1 in the police package car.
there is one that they reffer to as being the pursuit package, but that is what i have. it is a 5.7 car.

its no slouch, dont get me wrong..ive pegged my speedo out on a occasion or two.

i just gt mine back out of the shop...was in for about 8 days..maybe nine.

my front brakes where TOAST!!!!

there is a "kit" that they must order in to fix the issue...ended up with the same rotor..they just turned it and replaced the pads. no more sqealing coming from them now.

ill see how this holds up...

i have a rattle in the front end some where. has been present since day one that they still cant find.

and i got some sirius tunes installed..now i can rock..

Here's is an exerpt from my local newspaper reporting the popularity and reliability of the Chargers, with the exception of my town's 2 Chargers, which allegedly are problem ridden. The reporter mistakenly states the V6's have MDS.

Cruiser control: Cops take sides on rides

By RYAN MENARD
The Patriot Ledger

BRAINTREE - They're sleek, slick and good on gas. But Braintree police say their two new Dodge Charger cruisers are just not built Ford-tough enough.

Braintree Police Chief Paul Frazier asked selectmen July 23 to buy a new Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor, the standard in police cruisers, just months after the department made the switch to Dodge's non-traditional muscle car.

''We've had nothing but problems with them,'' Frazier told selectmen. ''It's like a weekly event now - go to the shop.''

Drawn to its high resale value and a gas-saving feature that drops an eight- or six-cylinder engine down to four cylinders when the car is idling or maintaining a steady speed, Frazier said the department figured the Charger could save the town a buck or two.

But nagging problems with the cars' heating coils, which regulate the interior temperature, have left the department's two Chargers stranded in the shop time and again - once for two months.

The stylish cruisers will be sitting pretty in the town garage as backup cars.

''In the lessons learned category, we'll be going back to Crown Victorias,'' selectmen Chairman Darrin McAuliffe said at the July meeting, before the board approved $22,759 to buy a new Ford.

The Charger - Chrysler's latest challenge to the near-monopoly that Ford has long held in the police cruiser market - has been road-tested by other Massachusetts departments.

Hull Police Chief Richard Billings said the Chargers his department has are running great. They brought in a third one late last month. (TBird note-that would be a third black and white, as they originally ordered 3-two black and whites and the black unmarked chief's car.)

''It's been a huge success for us,'' Billings said.

Hull's Dodges have only required routine maintenance. The gas savings have been sizeable - about $3,750 a year - for a small town operation that needs to save where it can, Billings said.

And buying Chargers with an upgraded eight-cylinder engine has added speed, safety and style to the force, he added.

''It sounds like I work for Dodge,'' he joked.

Other police departments are also happy with their Dodges.

Halifax police have had a Charger on the street for two months. No complaints as of yet.

''So far, they're working out all right,'' Police Chief Michael Manoogian said.

A State Police captain said feedback about the fleet's 30 Chargers - out of about 2,600 cruisers overall - has also been positive.

''We haven't had any major issues at all,'' State Police Sgt. Mark Caron said. ''We'll see how they hold up.''

Mansfield Chief Arthur M. O'Neill, who is also president of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, said he has not heard much grief about the Chargers, but said the six-cylinder versions - the ones Braintree has - have seen their share of problems.

Still, there is always the Crown Victoria, he said.

''It's a rock,'' O'Neill said. ''It's proven, and all the years I've been driving and buying Crown Vics, it's been money well spent.''

Say what!!!
It's coming from a reporter which is coming from the Braintree police. They are also not parking them, as I have seen both of them on the streets the past few days.

Yes they can. Ron, I believe, of Mopar Performance, has the oil cooler kit for around $120, complete.

Each of the police package's components can be purchased separately and installed by your dealer, or you can do it yourself.

(If a search for Mopar Performance doesn't get you a phone number, PM Matt Robertson for the info. He has all the info on the various cooling mods for our cars.)

I was in Weymouth yesterday and saw Chrysler's Charger PR cop car being driven by one of Weymouths finest. Looks like they're considering a switch.

and one uncorroborated report that the same thing happened during the Texas State police (not sure if I have org name right there) testing.
that would be Texas State Trooper (Department of Public Safety, official title)

So after driving a LE charger for the past year, here are a few problems I have had with my car. It currently has 39K miles on it.
Front brakes are really bad... burn through them in 5K miles. Can't keep the rotors from warping.
Clunk from what sounds like the drivers front ball joint.
Front tire wear on the outside edge of the tire. Had the alignment checked it's fine.
Broken motor mount (on two of our chargers)
Exhaust leak (probably due to the motor mount)
Delay in shifting from Drive to reverse and back (quick turn around)

Other than those issues, I love the car! That is why I bought an SRT-8 for my personal car. It handles better than the Vic. The overall public response has been great. Oh and the Aux imput to the CD stereo makes for a nice 12 hour shift.

^^ that "clunk" may be the tie rod, which is maybe also responsible for the tire wear. The alignment shop I go to says they're beginning to replace a lot of lower tie rods on LX's. A friend had the "clunk" and replacing the lower tie rods fixed it. The motor mount thing sounds weird, but I'll bet you guys drive'm like ya stole'm sometimes :)

Saw a LE charger in EG today...looks nice but man they paint thier cars up goofy there!
