have a question for you, this is merely out of curiosity.
I think it was you that said,(not too sure as that thread was deleted), anyway "you" were saying that the 5.7 was not capable of handling boost right?? or was it that it could handle a small amount? where and how did you find out that info? what was/is the story?

thank you sir.

I think you'd be better off asking someone like Hennessey, GSM, FnkyChkn, or Obiwan...

I think almost every S/C 5.7 I have heard of has blown, and at least one 6.1 I think i read on another forum.

***I don't that what I said is a fair statement...I guess you don't hear about the ones that don't blow up.***

I have only heard about the one 6.1L that blew and that was unconfirmed...
like the owner is going to come and share that info...
there also was 5.7L that blew under beta testing for one of the chip companies - internal employee who "volunteered" his car...
have never seen another post from him since then...

There have been many horror stories about blown 5.7's Obiwan is one of them... two times over.

When I asked an SRT Engineer why they went to the 6.1 block as opposed to the 5.7 S/C (as was on the prototype) he told me that after long experiments trying to push 425hp out of the 5.7 it sprung so many oil leaks that it was insane.

They had to move up to the stronger 6.1 block, no way around it.

Now do bear in mind it would be POSSIBLE to use forced induction on the 5.7 and crank out that kind of power (and more) but the difference between a race shop doing it, and SRT doing it is the fact that a production car must be warranted and must be reliable or it will be a failure.

I would never consider going that route even on my 6.1 without seriously upgrading the internals to handle the power. But I am a bit old school and have had motors built by people who worried more about doing it right the first time, and less about how fast they could get it done, or how cheaply.

Bandit,
yeah my question was just out of curiousity. I did hear the internals of the 5.7 are not all that great. as with you, IF I planned on running a blower on it, I would upgrade the internals. My 408 Dakota R/T has forged internals, but that will most likely stay NA. Thank you for your answer.

I agree with you completely and that is why I am having a new crank, pistons,.....everthing bigger stronger put in mine and done correctly.
The way I look at it mine will be done right..I am the guinea pig, if mine blows up then no one else will buy one so they will be REAL sure to get it right the 1st time. :thumbs_u:

Red,
good luck with it and keep us posted. although i don't have a 6.1, I'd still like to hear your progress.

There's a brand new thread about a guy with the SC already developing problems (detonation).

I'm pretty much never buying anything from GS - it sure seems like they've either rushed everything to production without the proper testing.
