Yesterday I made a speed stop on a 300C doing 94 MPH. I was stopped on the right shoulder monitoring traffic. Traffic was doing about 70-75 MPH with the occasional car doing 82-83 MPH. Speed limit is 70 MPH. I could have gone after the 83 but I know if I wait a few more seconds, I could get a car doing 90 plus. I get the 300 passing traffic and I estimate his speed at 95 MPH at 700 feet out. I activated my handheld radar unit and I locked in a speed of 94. FYI, the radar gun has a fastest mode. It is able to track two targets. The biggest target with the strongest radar signal(group of traffic) and the fastest speed in the radar beam. I pull him over and he stops in the right shoulder off the pavement into the loose, dry dirt.

So I contact the driver. Right off the bat, I get the attitude. "Why did you stop me?" I advised him the reason why I stopped him and I ask for his license, reg and insurance. Dude continues with questions, "I want to see your radar. How do you know it was me?"... and so on. If there ever was a book on how not to behave when pulled over, this guy never read it. Needless to say, I went back to my motorcycle and wrote the ticket.

I walk back to the car. Now this guy is livid. Surprised that I wrote him a ticket. Out come the F-Bombs. I ask him to sign the citation. He grabs my ticketbook out of my hand and practically carves his signature on the ticket. I politely give him back his information and ticket and advise him the court procedures. I give him my standard, "Drive safely and watch your speed".

As I start to walk back to my motorcycle, the guys turns on his car, puts it in gear and punches it. TOO FUNNY!!! The rear wheels spin in the dirt slightly and stop. Then the 300C lurched and sputtered away, slowly accelerating. The ESP kicked in! It saved me a dirty uniform and dirty motorcycle. I have had many instances in the past when drivers get soo mad that they spin the wheels to kick up the dirt as a last retaliation. But this was awesome. The 300 just pulled away safely.

THANK YOU DCX!!!:thumbs_u:

That is funny, glad it save ya from the rock shower.
Saw a guy hammer the gas as the cop was going back to his cruiser.. cop got back in the car and pulled him over again. This time he went into the back seat of the cruiser and got a free ride downtown while his ride was towed. Guess he nailed the poor cop wiht stones.. Could hear them bouncing off the car too..

Not the story I expected from the thread title! Funny!

If he didn't have ESP... wouldn't the 'rock shower' be enough to pull him again??

Good one Jose!!
Now if he showerd rocks or gravel and dirty on the Purdy bike, or even your neatly pressed uniform, I am sure you would get him a ride in a cruiser!!

SO..."Mr. (self-proclaimed) Party-pooper"
IS THERE a "proper" way to "behave when pulled over" that *might* have you (or a similarly dressed individual) discussing the situation that might lead up to a "warning" or additional "friendly advice" versus an autograph??

Spinning your tires is illegal in Illinois, anyway. (So of course I never do it :p)

Showing some common courtesy and cooperative attitude go a long way in how any individual will react to you.

If you don't beleive me, just ask my WIFE!

So, possibly and officer would back off a bit, but hey, they gotta make a living too and keep everyone as safe as possible.

I drive in the area Jose patrols, and I can tell you, it can look exactly like NASCAR on that freeway, you got your drafting, your Dale Ernhart types, your over testosteroned kids driving (well you know, imports) and not to mention the soccer Moms driving the SUV Tanks hauling A$$ while talking on the cellphone and all, then the little lady 'ol schoolteachers like my Wife going 65-70 minding their own business and in their own little worlds on the same track!!

Kinda. I could stop him and possibly cite again for exhibition of speed. But it would be up to me to articulate the exhibition. Its an easy defense to say, "I didnt know. There was loose dirt and my foot slipped on the gas pedal"

Exactly what MAGNUM8R said.

Spinning the wheels is not in itself illegal in California. Its the exhibition of speed that illegal.

i almost got out of my last ticket i think. between hints on how to behave from here and listening to my best friend the LEO i've about nailed the procedure.

1) Pull over as soon as it's safe and safest for the officer.
2) Turn off car.
3) Roll down ALL windows and turn on ALL interior lights.
4) Leave hands on steering wheel until the officer approaches.
5) POLITELY inform him of your moves before you make them.
6) Be honest. (this is what i think hurt me on my 60 in a 35. I wasn't sure of my record and he pulled it and i was wrong lol)
7) Be polite even if you do get the ticket. These guys have a rough job. How many of us can actually say "Yeah I could get shot doing my job today."

Good story Jose glad you escaped the shower o' rocks!

I've been pulled over twice for "stuff" on the car that is illegal in NYS. They just informed me it wasn't legal and let me go. Being polite doesn't put them on the defensive and keeps things civil. That would've been a good one for funniest police videos.

I thought it was in CA. It can be placed under various categories right? I got pulled over, no ticket though, for spinning the tires next to a cop.
Last time I got cited for spinning the rears was called "unsafe start" or something like that.
Hell if it's legal I'm about to go out and taunt some more officers. :)

Jose,

Was this yesterday at about 1:30 PM right before Murrieta Hot Springs Rd? I saw a motorcop pull over a car which I think it might have been a 300. So, anyway.... define this law..! I can legally burnout in front of an officer?! "Whoops, I pressed the gas too hard" or "Jose said I can do it!" ?

You'll get a dreaded "exhibition of speed" ticket bud, and god help you if the guy next to you want to play as well...............you can just ga ahead and add the racing ticket to your resume too. Most of our local officers just aren't as nice as Mr. Shag. :not_worth

man, your a better cop than I would be.
I'd take great delight in pulling hiom over again and writing him up for exibition of acceleration.
I mean it DID spin just a bit.
I'd also mention that dropping the f bomb is a class C misdemenor and offer to write another if he'd like.
if I still got tude, I'd politly offer a bitchslap upside da head.
I don't think I'd bee that great of a cop.

for 20 dolars, I'd call him a chickin f.......
