Frank Racing Inc has raised the bar when it comes to cylinder heads. FRI offers 3 different type of port jobs for the 3rd Generation Hemi Engines. Each cylinder head is hand ported in house by Steve Frank. Once the porting is completed, the head is then assembled to the specs needed to support the customers build taking into account the camshaft the customer is running, the cubic inch of the motor as well as the weight of the vehicle. No cylinder heads are CNC'd by FRI.

In this thread, I will be able to show all the forum members the differences of the ENTIRE cylinder head with photos!

FRI offers the following port designs:
  • Econo
  • Street
  • Extreme
Here is all the images in the order of the different levels of porting. All the images below of our Show Cylinder Head that we have on display here in Houston TX for all our customers to see the differences side by side. The show head is a 6.1L Cylinder Head.

Lets start with the Intake Runner

Left to Right--> Stock - Econo - Street - Extreme

Next up... Exhaust Runner

Left to Right --> Extreme - Street - Econo - Stock

Finally... Chamber Work...

Left to Right --> Extreme - Street - Econo - Stock

Now lets narrow it down to the runners, the bowls and the chamber individually so members can see the amount of work down to each head.

I hope this helps all those interested in Cylinder heads for their vehicle. FRI takes great pride in our cylinder heads. Each cylinder head is hand ported inhouse by Steve Frank. None of our cylinder heads are CNC'd and all of are heads are made to order.

Thoughts?

So at what point is there not enough material left around the guides? Extreme looks like it's really pushing the envelope as far as material goes. But looks like a lotta work, I'm sure they make some numbers. Why not CNC'ing yet?

would steve do extreme on the exhaust and econ on the intake and chamber if i wanted than?
I am sure he wouldnt mind discussing the idea with you on a phone to see what would be the best approach to your complete build.

The extreme images are actually of a design we are doing for a customer who IS pushing the the bar higher... Lets just say his 6.1L is about to be pulled out and SLEEVED... 426ci is nothing compared to what he has planned. However to answer your question, there is still enough material in the head... Compare the image of our Extreme to a CNC'd head and you will see why we are not CNC'ing the head.. :)

Don't tell anyone... but, I feel like a bit of a whore lol Can you blame me for giving their contest a shot, though?
I guess... I will keep my opinions to myself but your post did make me laugh!

I've always wondered, why do FRI heads have the redish color paint around the ports and valves?

haha to the naked eye they look close but after you take some very important measurements in cylinder head design and flow, the extreme is alot more intense... Its mostly on the chamber and the intake runner...

Example Rob.. If you wanted to add a 6.1L Intake Manifold to your car, we would completely disassemble the head and rework the entire Intake Runner... This is alot of work, approx 6 hours for both heads to be ported directly to the 6.1L manifold... More time if we have also ported your 6.1L manifold!

Marty... It was nice to speak to you this afternoon and look forward to helping you out tomorrow continuing on thru your build.

Thanks for taking the time to check out the images. I hope it makes it alittle more clear as to what I was talking about on the phone.
