I heard on the news this AM, Fiat is going to buy/bail/whatever. I was surprised they would have the financial means. Hope it works out.

35%+ stake from a company like Fiat just so they can harness research and pump little cars into America makes me sick.

Well, it's not ideal for sure, but Mother Mopar needs small cars in the fleet. I would rather see that than Chery, for example.

Whatever it takes to keep Mother Mopar alive is ok. Much better than just dieing off.

yeah, there'll be platform sharing...so we'll have a bunch fiats with Dodge/Chrysler badges. I just went to Fiat's UK website...they're ugly little cars. There's not much there that would appeal to North Americans.

I get the need for small cars, but when you have to thoroughly rework the design to appeal to North Americans, is it really worth it?

Alfas are absolutely gorgeous cars. Don't have the best rep for reliability though but I think that's largely a problem of the past. The new version of the classic Fiat 500 is hugely popular in Europe. Very small, but that's part of the charm.

I was kind of sorry to see this. I know that Chrysler is in dire straits, but Fiat? I had one in the 70s and it was the biggest piece of junk ever.

It's a sad day indeed.

Yeah, they are ugly all right, but it never ceases to amaze me what some people will buy. Consider the Pontiac Aztec. Actually the two red ones are LESS ugly than the others.
