the pump is for a dry sump oil system on the hemi's! there should be some very detailed explanations on here on the benefits from a dry sump oil system or on a google search youd find much better detailed diagrams and info on this type of oil system than i can provide.

A dry sump system has a pump to draw the oil out of the pan into an external tank. Another pump, pressurizes the oil into the motor's oil galleys.

The motor doesn't have to splash through the reservoir oil, so there is less resistance to the motor. The reservoir tank can be larger and of any size, since it can be located anywhere. The motor has more clearance on the bottom, since you do not need a large (wet) sump reservoir. Oil starvation is not a problem due to the large tank that is always being filled.

Off road race vehicles and road race cars are perfect platforms for dry sump systems.

^^X2. The term oil scavenging is also used to describe how dry sump systems scavenge or draw oil away from the bottom of the crank and oil pan.

That particular pump all by itself is just shy of $2000. Dry sumps are hideously expensive. You'd better need it.

Which begs the question: Why do you think you need it? Who has had an oil starvation problem that a dry sump would fix? When we tore my motor apart we found zero signs of oil starvation. I plan on adding a trap-doored oil pan and that might be the end of it. If we go to another level, an Accu-Sump would go in where the washer bottle is now, probably.

well i dont need one but on my import by switching to a dry sump system we gained about 35 to 40 hp and it helps on boosted cars with relieving crank pressure but the over all performance of the motor goes up.
i dont need it but i also didnt need a twin turbo kit but i just wanted one lol!
