Hi,

Recently a few codes popped up: P0135 and P0155 (O2 Heater Circuit (Bank 1, Sensor 1) and 02 Heater Circuit (Bank 2, Sensor 1), respectively). I ran some errands, then P0052 (HO2S Heater Control Circuit High (Bank 2, Sensor 1) popped up. As I was diagnosing with the engine on P0300 (Random Misfire Detected) and P1129 (Downstream HO2S Sensors Swapped) popped up and the engine was "chugging." I've looked through the FSM and the diagnostics require a scan tool (I don't have one) to run the O2 Heater Test and a couple Miller Special Tools (#8404-CLL & 8815, I don't have these either).

I don't have Appcar DiagFCA either. Would this help me?

I couldn't find any info P1129 in the FSM. I'm going to assume P0300 and P1129 is a side effect of idling the engine during diagnosis.

I suppose I could try diagnosing the O2 Sensor Heater Element as shown in the attached picture below using a multimeter, but I was unsure how to go about it.

With limited diagnosis, are the chances high that the O2 sensors are faulty?

MRT has 122000km (76000mi). I assume the O2 sensors are original.

Thanks.

O2 sensors are cheap.
I'd replace all four before proceeding.
I did so after I was experiencing some drivability problems and I am now getting 1.5 L/100 km better mileage on highway driving.

1:1 and 2:1 are both the upstream of cat sensors that monitor engine consumption performance. 1:2 and 2:2 are after cat and just monitor cat performance

The chugging is from the failed up streams. My 03 Windstar did the same thing. Would run fine when cold, and as things heated up, ran worse and worse, and after shutdown wouldn't even start back up until it all cooled down completely.

Like the other guy said a full set of oem Bosch sensors is like $150 from rock auto. Check wiring first make sure everything is good, if so, r&r em and call it good

O2 sensors should be replaced as routine maintenance 60-80k. They'll get lazy and effect mpg and performance, but not throw a code. Even if the cause of your codes is other than the sensors, they're due. My preference is NTK as they're oem for my 300c... just did mine and saw near 2 mpg increase and there was no code. In any event, this is worth a read if you'd like some insight to what they're doing.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out on for better mileage.

Thanks for the thread. I'll definitely go through it!

So I was taking a look and doing prep work to service the sensors. I'm fairly confident I can easily service both passenger upstream/downstream O2 sensors and the driver side downstream sensor. Does anyone have any tips on removing the driver side upstream O2 sensor?

I have an O2 sensor socket as pictured, but the lower steering column shaft (I think that's what it is) is in the way ever so slightly that I cannot attach my breaker bar. At the moment, I'm thinking I might need a flex head wrench.

Thanks.

On my 300c, I needed two styles of sockets. One like you've got pictured, and a second one (pic attached). It was also necessary to grind a bit off the length. Not sure if this would help with your situation, but seemed worth mentioning.

According to the FSM, the passenger downstream O2 sensor should be part# 56029049AA for trims SE, SXT, and R/T. When I removed the sensor from my MRT, it was actually 56029050AA which is supposed to be for the SRT8 trim. Unfortunately, 56029049AA needs a longer wire than 56029050AA. I wish I had known this before purchasing. :(
