Creaking/groaning when pushing brake pedal - 2014 300 (possible BR9 upgrade wanted now)

My car is making a loud creaking/groaning noise when I press hard on the brake pedal (ie at a stop light etc.) I've tried to narrow it down but can't find out whats casuing it. Any ideas on stuff/how to check? If I kind of 'bounce' the front with the brake pedal I get it pretty loud and its getting annoying, not totally sure if its the brakes or suspension. I did take the front brakes apart and relube everything well to no avail..
Thanks :)

Manually push the front end of the car up/down and side to side. If the sound is from your front suspension, you should be able to hear it while doing this as well. I always noticed this sort of thing when going over speed bumps in previous vehicles.

I tried that but it didn't seem to make any noise, though I couldn't get it to move a ton.

It really seems like it might be something in the brake system to me. If I stop/sit and press hard on the brakes it does it, more so when releasing them. I've taken the brakes apart and relubbed them etc and they look fine...

Then if it were me, I'd get up under the dash and find the spring for the brake pedal and make sure that's lubed sufficiently. Also maybe have someone push the brake pedal while inspecting where the master cylinder is under the hood to see if anything is coming from that area.

When I had my 05 AWD Magnum, I had a creak like that and it turned out to be my lower ball joint on the driver's side. Might consider a ball joint as a place to check.

Good idea Tom, I'll have to find someone to help me figure this out as I can't look and press at the same time...

Chuck, I had the lower control arms and sway bar bushings replaced 1.5yrs ago now and it was doing it before and after (and a clunk the sway bar bushings fixed), and they supposedly checked it all out the few times I had it back as I was still complaining of the squeaking...
Well I certainly hope you get it figured out. Noises like that drive me nuts.

Strut caps (mounts / bearings) maybe?

I'll check them too, thanks :)
I agree, I hate weird noises in my vehicles :)
It's the front calipers both sides. I dunno why they are creaking so bad :( I've taken them off 2x now and lubed them up good and nothing seems damaged on them :(
So, does the "creaking" go away after you lube them for a period of time?

I'm confused at calipers making noise like what you describe.

No, it doesnt go away at all. If I stop and press the brakes firmly it does it, more so when releasing them. If I pulse the pedal and bounce the front it sounds really bad...
It could just be the brakes doing their job. Mine grinds a little when I first release the brakes.

See, that's what I'm getting at.......the front end movement up and down (compression and extension of front suspension) should have nothing to do at all with the brake calipers.

No it's not a normal brake squeal etc. If I'm driving and press the brakes it doesn't do it that I hear, just coming to a stop or stopped (if I press firmly.)

I agree, I really think its coming from the calipers now. The harder I press/release the brakes the louder it is.
It's definitely the front calipers, but I can't get it to go away :(

I've taken apart the front brakes 3x now and pressed the pistons back in and cleaned/lubed everything up very well, cleaned the pins etc, even scuffed surface with sanding discs and rebed the pads, but still this loud creaking groan when pressing the brakes. I might bleed the brakes again tomorrow so there is at least new fluid in there, but I sucked it out and put new stuff in last year :/

The pads have about 2/3 life left, the rotors look ok other then the inside swept area is pitting a bit on the one side due to it not being used much the past couple years (this time I cleaned it off well with a flapdisk.) They are all Mopar parts the dealer put on them a few years back. I have a set of new Raybestos EHT pads I was going to put on but wanted to get new rotors first, maybe I'll have to get them sooner then later, but I think its the calipers that would be doing it alone, no?

Maybe I should start gathering parts for a BR9 police swap?!

Caliper stayed quiet for a month after last clean/press in, lol...

Anyone have part numbers for so maybe I can start gathering the BR9 parts for the AWD?
May as well look into it if I need to swap front calipers too?
Thanks.
Hmm, still haven't decided if I want to spend the extra on the pursuit stuff or not :/
The BR9 upgrade is one of my favorite mods. Absolutely no regrets. Maybe I wasted some time with Ceramic pads but it was still an improvement, but ceramics just do not perform like metallics and PFC Carbon are tops. Ceramics are prone to hot spotting (uneven material transfer) on any application.
Once the PFC's face off good she is at peak.
If you do your own work and can rebuild calipers you can salvage the parts and refresh. Don't waste $$ of designer drilled or slotted rotors. Raybestos police rotors are still quality. Good luck.

Thanks again gapi for the info :)
Maybe I'll do the fronts for now with the BR9 stuff (they are the ones I'm having issues with caliper,) and do the rears in the fall, as they are fine right now...
