Was on my way home tonight going North on Hwy #10.

Up from the rear I can see the tell-tale headlights of a 1990 Mustang

I can hear the motor a long way away, and it was easy to tell that this pony was a thoroughbred. A very dep grumble indeed.

He gets along side and gives me the thumbs up, I return in favor. His car is bright Yellow, nice rims, and other than that "looks" very stock except for a little airbrush work on the rear quarter that read "11 seconds".

We get stopped at the lights at Bovaird Dr. He shouts over his engine "That thing looks really mean!" I again give the thumbs-up because I knew he wouldn't be able to hear me over the lopy idle of his car.

We both take off from the lights, I'll say rapidly. Not racing just a fair push away from the stop.

This stretch of road is an 80 zone, 2 lanes each way and was pretty deserted. We played a little giving a little gas here and there. Not racing just a little fun.

We got to the next light just as it was turning green and had already slowed down considerably, he goosed it a little from about 40 and I followed suit, and stayed right beside him, but I could tell he wasn't even trying. By this time he and his passenger were smiling from ear to ear and laughing loudly. We both let off long before reaching any crazy speeds, and he let me in front of him.

Got to the next intersection where I turn to go home, and he turned the same direction.

About 100 feet after the corner he popped out from behind be and in less than 2 seconds was about 2 cars ahead. This Stang was indeed FAST!!

He pulled in to the local Timmy's, and into the drive thru. I pulled in right behind him, to grab a coffee as well.

We waited in the lineup at the drive thru, all the while I could hear the rumbling of what was obviously a very big motor in that car of his.

I finally get to the window to pick up my coffee, and the girl hands it to me and says "He paid for you" motioning towards the drive thru exit.

Before I got to the exit and turned, the Stang was already on the street. He made a right turn, going back where we had just came from and I heard him give it a little squeeze, and he was gone.

That was fun, but never even got the chance to talk to the guy. They were what looked to be a late 30's couple.

Really would have liked to have known what he had under the hood.

This was no punk kid, and it was plain to the ear that there was some big $$$$$$$$ under that hood. No blower whine, no turbo spooling. Sounded like ALL MOTOR

I have a 90 Mustang GT with a hot 302 that I am using as a donor vehicle to build a 52 Willys street rod. It's scary fast but those tiny little tires just don't hang on like our 18's.

Must have been the day for it! Great story... I would have loved to know what was under the hood as well.

A guy in a red GTA Firebird went flying by on the 400 yesterday. While I'm not a racing kind of guy, I still like to have some fun with people that think they're fast. Sometimes I'll let them get right beside me before flooring it. Just when you think you've passed, that damn station wagon launches!

or the other thing I like to do is jump in behind him and match his speed, faster than he would think was possible. Let him go buy first, but then there I am, right behind him. (Not too close, but close enough that he knows it took some power to do.) And I'm talking significantly faster, not just some guy slowly passing.

Got off the 400 at Jane, I gave him the thumbs up. Traffic let us chat for a while. It's fun telling them 425 HP, stock... I often get the R/T line. Hemi, right? 300 something? Nope, Hemi, 425...

I always complement other muscle, get them off on the right foot and you have some interesting conversations! :beerchug:

Stang's? There's a few out there that go like stink....

As far as the coffee goes, I've done that. Bought the guy behind me, his, because he was cool about something. It makes you both feel good. :thumbs_u:

Yep, you literally have no idea what you're lining up against. A stocker in the high 14s or a 460-powered, stroked to "10.0".

I'm a reformed Mustang guy, so I can speak from experience that there are a lot of Mustang jerks. Most of our negative folks don't stick around, but with Mustang forums/newsgroups (Rec.autos.ford.mustang anyone?), the sheer number of people who are so abusive to the non-v8 owners is amazing.

This story was a nice reminder that there are few good guys out there in the corral while the rest are doing unnatural things to horses.

Cool write-up, Token. Loved it! After reading your story I'm going to keep it in mind whenever I'm at the Tim's drive thru. :thumbs_u:
