OOOOF. Think it has a custom cam in there or what???

Stolen from H-I
Ohio tuning firm RDP Performance has cooked up a special version of the new Dodge Challenger SRT8 for last month's Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show in Florida. Taking a stock SRT8, which comes with an already impressive 425hp when it rolls out of the factory, RDP Performance has extensively modified the car to produce a stunning 1,000hp - all channeled through the car's rear wheels.

RDP Performance's goal with the car was to create a Dodge Challenger capable of completing the quarter-mile sprint in nine seconds. To put that goal in perspective, the $1 million, 1,001 hp Bugatti Veyron takes around 10 seconds to complete the quarter-mile, so the engineers over at RDP Performance knew that they would have their work cut out for them.

To give the Challenger all that power, a slew of modifications were made, with various parts manufactured by RDP themselves and other parts bought from performance parts companies. The massive horsepower increases come largely from two items - a one-of-a-kind Twin Bullet/RDP Harrop Supercharger system and a nitrous boosting system from Nitrous Express.

The other modifications include a new fitted rear end with custom 1/2 shaft and a quaife centre, a 3,800rpm high stall converter to help launch the car with more torque, new step headers from Kooks and a custom exhaust system manufactured on site by RDP Performance at their Ohio headquarters.

Amazingly, despite making the Challenger put out more than double its factory output, RDP Performance is still using the factory transmission, although they have implemented their own transmission control module to control it.

Dear Bandit,

Dont leave the forums for more than a month anymore, and we wont have to see threads like this. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Your friends at LXF

P.S. All in jest buddy. Yes the thing is impressive, but Steve's got a whole thread about this car down in the RDP vendor section. Glad to see you're back around though.... I need more comedy in my life!

:panic:. BTW, my brother is getting one of those mammoth superchargers on his shelby 500, i think that is what they call it, where it claims to have over 850+ at the wheels. Any suggestions i need to give him since that thing will most likely tear **** up lol! he is getting one of those lighter heavy duty race drive shafts, but what else will he need. Welcome back Bandito!

Very nice. The GT 500s are super stout and take incredibly well to mods; I wouldn't worry about stuff breaking well, until it does. Tires will be a problem though... Traction will be an issue but there's plenty of stuff available from Shelby, Steeda, FMS, etc., that can help with that.

Hope he has the new(er) tranny or the tranny TSB done if it's an older one...

So wouldn't you think if this chally was running good there would be videos left and right of tire smoking, front wheel pulling, and just plain ole hauling ass? Maybe it's just a trailer queen used as a selling tool and will never run right.

Ah yes, a fairy tale perhaps...but is it more of a fairy tale to put the word "soon" in your sig?

Soon, all tuning parameters will be answered....

Like I said Jeff, it'd be nice to have this Tuning Messiah Software before the actual apocalypse or when we see our cars being auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson in 40 years.

Oh poop...

Have him start reading on the Shelby forums here:

http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/

Some outright horror stories, mostly tales of dealer-related aggravation. There's at least one petition around to turn the TSB into an actual recall...

I forget the date cut off but I'm pretty sure the '08s (maybe late build date?) and '09s have the "right" transmission.

Good luck to 'em, might never be a problem but if he's having any shifting related issues he needs to print up the TSB and sprint (not run) to his dealer, and if they won't do it (or do it correctly), find one who will. Plenty of complaints from owners who've had the TSB done incorrectly, you need a wrench/tech whose knowledgeable and has some successful ones under their belt (usually in a dealership that moves them). Paying for a grenaded tranny in those cars is well over a $5K job, and some guys have ended up paying that outta their own pocket.

Not hatin' on the GT 500 by any stretch whatsoever; awesome car, incredible performance value (NO one is paying ADMs anymore...) just something to watch out for.

Is it just me, or does the exhaust note on that Challenger sounds like crap?

Sure it's got a nice surge/lope to it, but it sure would sound better through a set of Zoomers I'm thinking...
