Anyone tried or know of anyone who has attempted to swap in the 08 center console into a pre 08? Is it bolt in?
x2 for the Chargers. I would like to know if this is possible without replacing all the upper and lower dash pieces.

I have the 08 radio bezel. instead of tapering in the last inch it goes straight. Same for the ash tray. The upper dash piece tapers where the bezel goes, but the outsides appear to remain straight. It looks like it might be possible, but before I go shelling out money for the console I hope that someone else tested this.

PaP told me that you'd have to change the passenger side airbag b/c the mounts are different. That would drive the price beyond the "worth it" point if true.

The whole dash is only 500 from Moparpartz.com If I knew it would bolt right in I would order it. That way my mygig and 08 bezel would fit without mods and I could have the new console!
Where do you see 500? I'm seeing it for $952 there. And thats just for the Magnum. They dont have an option for 300 or Charger in the drop-down.

I'm basing this just by eye-balling but I believe the actual shifter is in the exact same place as the earlier years. Its just the console around it that's different. Maybe someone can contact PaP to confirm this. They've done the swap.

the shifter is different, different style, different design, different canbus protocol, you need to change the dash, and the console, because the designs are different..

then you need to change the body harness and wiring because the connectors on the gear selector are different, the TCM is different, and the canbus is different..

regardless of whether it is in the same location or not, it is a different design and a different network

now I am sure you could swap the dash and the console, and keep your gear shifter, but then you need to fab up something to fill in the gap around it as the pre-2008 shifter is lower and more narrow..

the 2008 is taller by nearly 2 inches and wider by about 4..

I've taken the measurements, and checked into it when the 2008's first came out..

I even had a 2008 console I tried to mate up, and without switch a ton of parts and/or fabbing bunch of stuff to make old and new work, it wasn't worth the cost, time and effort to do it.. too much has changed..

I own one of each style and I agree, they are way different. I like the 08's in general but I really donot like the shallow tray in front of the shifter, nothing stays in it during cornering.

I believe you're talking about 300s MrIncredible. I have a Charger; To your knowledge is this true with the Chargers as well? If so... to keep this as simple as possible, I'm thinking a nice loose cloth/leather base around the entire shifter (think Infiniti or come BMWs) would cover up all those incongruities nicely. Thoughts? Also, what type of prices have you seen for the dashes? I'm thinking I'd need Dash Panel, Glovebox Door, Panel over your knees (dunno what its called), Center console bezel, Center console storage box cover....

Anything else?

Edit: To be honest... this is one of those PITA upgrades that would probably leave lots of little bits that are easy to forget. I think the best bet would be to call PaP... tell them what you're trying to do, and have them setup an 'upgrade package' for you. It'll prolly be incredibly expensive... but at least you know you'd have everything you needed. I'm not sure I'm ready to plunk down $1000+ just for a softer interior. Now if that included doors... maybe....

well the 2008 Charger dash was completely changed..

so if you go there..

dash, lower panels, e-brake (remember the 2008 doesn't have the pull lever, it's a push on/push off) dash cluster (old one won't fit in the new dash), body wire harness (because the cluster is different so you need to change everything on the bus network), glove box, PCM, HIPM (replaces front PDC and FCM) , Vehicle systems interface module (new for 2008), FOBIK wireless interface module and the keys..

hmm, the center bezel and the radio as the REC, RAK, etc won't fit..

the cut of the new dash and console it completely different, the 300 is similar 2005-2007 vs 2008 to a degree, the Charger is competely different..

the cluster, the center stack everything changed.. they made it more like the 300

the old vs new isn't even close:

hmm,,

looking at that bottom picture it may be possible to slide it under the older dash,

but you will have a gap from the dash to the new console where it attaches...

IF that can be filled (thinking some fiberglass work here) and the shifter bezel on the 2008 shifter can be modified to work over the top of the existing shifter..

MAYBE it can be done.. but it will require tons of fiberglassing/fab work to make it fit right..

it would be a PITA project, but like you I think the 2008 console is much nicer.. just not worth the expense to me on a car that is losing value by the second..
