Brake Pedal "squeek" ?

4258 Views 19 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Drackopolis
Anyone else have this? Whenever I press my brake pedal (hard, soft, full, slight...anything) I get a sound which only can be described as the threads of a spring rubbing up with another piece of metal.

This has happened for about 2 weeks and I've crawled down there and don't see anything immediately visable. Anyone have the same issue?

Try giving it a shot of WD-40. Usually works for squeaks on moving parts.

I did that already....come on now.
It seems to be something inside the bottom of the console I can't readily get to without prying up some molding :(
Apply lithium grease to the spring located at the brake pedal pivot point. The grease should be applied to all surfaces of the spring and at each of the hard contact points to the pedal assembly. Exercise the pedal to make sure the noise is eliminated
Had the same thing pop up last week

trying tonight. Results to follow.
Mine doesn't pop...but the brake pedal itself seems to have some play in it...like in the rubber part you put your foot on....
I've noticed the same popping sound; most often when my right foot is on the right side of the pedal. When I put my right foot square in the center of the pedal I don't get the popping sound. Seems like it is more likely a pivot point because of that. I also have adjustable pedals.
UPDATE: went to Home Depot and bought a small gease gun and tube of lithium grease for $4.49 all in one package. Gave it a couple of shots at the joints and rubbed it around the spring then worked the pedal 15-20 times. I'm good as new! Thanks for the tip; the wd-40 wasn't cutting it...I guess I needed something that would stay put a little better.
Hey ghb2, I get the "pop" sometimes when applying the brake. Looks like
it's time for a TSB to be issued for it which would state "Borrow SoCal's
tube of lithium grease and shut up".

Took years of practice for me to quit the tech speak. ;)
Bump....

I'll be buying my lithium grease shortly!!
Yep, I got the same noise (spring binding). I'm just going to grease it up when I get a chance
I'm glad that's all it is......

Someone told me yesterday to never sell my Magnum...how it'll be a collector's item someday!!

Now the pressure is on to keep the car running!
I thought I was the only one that had that issue. I used white grease and all is quiet now..
I had this issue just prior to doing my brake job, then it went away for about 3 months, now it's back, lol...Go figure!
My daughter hears it every time I brake and she said it sounded like two pieces of rubber rubbing against each other but to me it is more of a spring sound... Hey, can I borrow some of that lithium grease? LOL, just kidding, picking some up today to shut that puppy up once and for all.
Am I correct in my logic that by leaving the sound alone, wear on the spring hook increases? If it is making such a noise it has to be wearing the metal down so greasing that sucker should be a priority, eh?
