Sometimes my Magnum has difficulty starting in cold weather...so i was thinking it could be the battery. The battery in there now has 730 cold cranking amps...is that enough? I'm in Rochester, and temps have been teens-30's the past couple weeks. usually it has a harder time starting when it's closer to the teens. other than the start problem, everything seems to be running just fine, no codes or weird noises.

I've been very happy with the Optima Yellow top. It's not a perfect fit, but you can adjust the hold downs to make it fit.

Rochester... New York, Michigan, Wisconsin....?

No Magnum built yet should have a dead battery. These batteries should be good for 4-5 years. And the 30's isn't that cold enough to effect your battery that much. 730 CCI should be enough in that temperature. Go to one of those auto parts places that will check your battery for free. You could have a bad battery. I had one once that had a bad cell in it. Rare, but it happens.

rochester NY...the EVIC shows 14.5 volts so the battery is still good. the times that it does not start up, its about a min or two of holding the key in the "start" position, and it doesnt fire up. its just a lot of starter motor whine and thats it, until the HEMI finally starts.

i'll start by saying that the starter was not designed to crank the engine for "a min or two". 15 consecutive seconds is about the maximum you should let it crank before giving it a 30 second break.

that being said, you might need to check fuel pressure for slow build up and quick leak down.

My battery died last week. It also leaked and damaged the terminal. Had to buy the battery from the dealer as the local auto part stores did not carry it. Hard to believe I've owned the car 4 years now, and still love driving it.

Don't give the dealer your hard earned cash, buy a battery from an auto parts store.

Just ask for a #27-1 battery....................... I got mine at Advance Auto Parts.

It is bigger than the stock battery, but it will fit in.

If the starter is cranking, I doubt it is the battery. I would try the cam sensor like Funky suggested.

I wasnt sure if it was maybe JUST under the CCA that the starter needed, so it would crank but not fast enough to start the engine, or what. but yeah, i will look into the cam sensor too.
