Has anyone swapped the new 8 speed tranny into an older lx generation. Curious since i have 391 gears, the extra 3 speeds would help on the hwy. no?

Unless the new trans helps performance at the track, and/or is built like SHR's or Bill's trans, then I personally don't think it's worth the R&D. I'm sure you could buy a new LX with a 8 spd for the cost to force the 8spd on the 1st or 2nd gen. Maybe you'd get someone to bite by putting the hellcat + 8spd trans. But even then....

I thought the 8 speed wouldn't fit in the current transmission tunnel or floor pans. I could be wrong but I thought I had read that somewhere.

I'm not sure if it will really help with gas the 8 speed gears are 4.70,3.13,2.10,1.67,1.29,1.00,.84,.67 and the NAG1 gears are 3.59,1.57,1.41,1.00,.83 because you have 3.92 gears in the rear that would put 1st gear at 8.62 and you 8th gear at 4.59 verse 7.51/4.75.... your going to burn more gas getting to the 8th gear. not to mention your traction will be less than what you have now.

I think there is a gear missing there, you have seven forward
gears listed; " 4.70,3.13,1.67,1.29,1.00,.84,.67" it is
4.713.142.101.671.291.000.840.67

Forgot 2.10...

The 8-speed would be ideal with the two final drive gear ratios.
You have the .67 -vs- the NAG1 .83 FINAL drive. IF you have the
sport mode auto-stick, you can start in 2nd gear with the 845RE,
and still be around where you would be in first gear with the NAG1.
The acceleration curve through 3rd, - 5th will keep you pulling
nice. 6th and 4th are the same on both transmissions, with a little
more oomph through 7th which is right around the NAG1 5th,
then your 8th for even lower rpms at final drive + lockup.

Once you hit the final drive + lockup, your RPMS would be lower than the NAG1 final drive,
with the 845RE, regardless of what carrier you have now.

It's not the the EXTRA three speeds help you, it's only the last
gear that helps you with MPG. The extra three speeds get you there
quicker. It will also help with local driving, you won't be as heavy
on the pedal. Pulling hills, also less into the pedal... Depends how
you would drive it, but it a nice gear transition for a V6 Charger, you'll
be able to keep up with a nice variety of V8s on the road.
