So, few weeks ago my stock 2007 REC radio took a ****. Blank screen 80% time, 15% garbled screen, 5% works normally. Bought a $40 parts radio to fix but even though same radios had different boards/connectors internally making repair a no go.
Did some research on aftermarket stuff. Holy hell like $1k easily for new Nav/BT setup.
Then asked why not swap in a MyGig? 100s posts/threads stating it "won't work" without a lockpick $275 adapter...but not a single post stating why?
Me = uber cheapass/stubborn said screw that I'll make it work haha!
Gotcha #1 in 2008 they changed the radio wiring/connectors, big whoop. Factory connectors can be changed/repinned easily.
Gotcha #2 in 2008 they switched from FCM to TIPM...also not deal killer. AlphaOBD allows programming of modules to add features.
Clock won't work...who cares!
NAV turn by turn won't display on EVIC...who cares!
However an arduino can likely resolve both for less $ than a lockpick anyway.
So I bought a 2012 RHR out of a Chrysler 200 off eBay and snagged an amp from a 2009 Jeep from boneyard.
My 2007 amp worked fine but even a base 2009(RES) base radio doesn't communicate with it/power it up.
However a 2009 amp + stock REC = working, same with 2009(RES) + 2009 amp = works.
A 2008 MyGig + 2007 amp = no audio.
The 2008 MyGig + 2009 amp = works.
A 2012 MyGig + 2009 amp in my car = works.
The 2012 MyGig with 2007 amp = not working.
So today I repinned/swapped factory 2007 to 2008+ style. Installed the 2009 amp.
Added a newer style NAV antennae.
Guess what...It works, WITHOUT a lockpick.
It even blanks screen in reverse because I enabled rear view camera just don't have one wired up yet.
So NAV works, radio works, steering wheel controls work, BT streaming works, curious on all posts/threads stating it "won't work"...what exactly "doesn't work"?
