Even after putting 10K miles on the Mag I still get a pretty strong burnt smell after a WOT run. Wondering how long should this go on for? Your thoughts?

Some mechanics are sloppy, so they don't wipe off oil like they should during an oilchange. So oil could be it. Get under the car and look at your headers. Better off invest into one of those mechanics' mirrors. It works wonders when you need to take a peek at tight locations.

I'll check it out apollo. I just got the headers on a few months back and was wondering if it was just the internals of the headers cooking a little. Thought it would go away. It's always seemed to have a brief burnt smell after WOT, but I don't WOT that often.

Mine did the burning oil smell after heavy accel for 50,000 miles. It was worse in the wet weather! Now after some track time it makes no stink at all. Maybe the cherry red exhaust manifolds fixed it.

We seem to have eerily similar problems with our mags. I had a little over 6k with mine and I get the burnt smell still after WOT...I too dont do it very often though

(Putting in High Flow Cats next week so, Im hoping that gets rid of my annoying vibration at start up)

yup....i have just over 5K....and in the past couple of weeks i've been experiancing this burnt smell. It doesnt happen all the time..but its pretty annoying. I had my 2nd oil change last week, and they told me that the problem was a small plastic bag that caught to the underbelly of my exaust thus causing the burnt smell. Well nope its still here people.

When you drive at road speeds, deposits build up in the cats and at WOT you burn these deposit out, thus the burnt hair smell.
I drive mostly highway, and I still have the smell in my SE. Car has almost 36K miles on it.

I have always wondered what caused this. Still trying to figure it out, and no there is no spilled oil. Thought it was maybe burning oil in the engine and somehow the smell gets into the a/c but I dont burn any oil.

Does anyone have any idea what causes this? Wheres the chicken man when you need him?

anyone looked around the pcv valve for any blow by....mine had some when I was running royal purple...switched to M1 and no more problems. I guess the RP was just too light and was getting by, kept having residue around the hose connections...just a thought.

It's some sort of manufacture defect. I have the same problem. Had it with the original exhaust and the Magnaflows. One of the things that this car is known for. Shouldn't happen, but I've heard from far too many owners with the same problem. I'm surprised no one has had their dealer figure out what the problem is. Or why there hasn't been a TSB released for the defect.
