What's up everyone?
I'm currently living in Minnesota and it looks like we will be moving to Schaumburg for my wife's job. I know absolutely NOTHING about the city.
Can anyone give us some insight as to what to expect?
We appreciate any info you can supply.
Thanks

Schaumburg is pretty nice. It's surrounded by other fairly nice 'burbs too. Where will she be working? If it's downtown Chicago, the commute won't exactly be short.

Welcome neighbor. Schaumburg has a lot to offer from shopping (Woodfield Mall nearby), Resturants (A lot of everything not too far away) and nightlife (Clubs, bars, etc.). Best of luck with the move.

Schaumburg is a nice area to be in, quite a few M&G's in that area. Outside of downtown Chicago, probably the next biggest "hub" entertainment wise.

I grew up in Schaumburg, lived there for about 13 years. Mom still lives there. Very very busy, traffic is terrible, houses are expensive. Good luck out there. My Dad moved us to IL. from Minnesota, he grew up out there. Came here from Rochester.

Being from Minn I have to ask... do you hunt?

If so, you may want to look for a place not far from Shaumburg, but in DuPage County. Living in Cook county with firemarms of any sort can be problematic.

Thanks for the info everyone. No I don't hunt but EVERYONE I know does. Got 3 young children so guns is not an issue. We will probably be down there in the next 2-3 weeks on a house hunting trip, and it sounds like a nice, quiet? place to be. Think I'm gonna let the company ship the Mag down there when we move and drive the wife's Malibu. As for the house hunting trip the company pays for all that in their relocation package so I'll see if they will provide someone to show us the area just to get a feel for it.
As for the M & G's I'd love to find out where and when the next one is. Maybe we'll be in town by then.
Again, thank you all

If you're here in the next couple of weeks, sounds like the perfect time to have a sort-of mid-winter M&G.
Schaumburg is pretty quiet overall, and as mentioned earlier, the houses aren't cheap and the property taxes pretty much suck too.

Alright, here's the update: We finally found ourselves a house in Algonquin, IL. It's about 30min NW of Schaumburg and about 1HR NW of Chicago. We are really excited about it and are currently looking up as much info about the area as possible. Any info you guys could give us would greatly help us out as well. So thank you all in advance!!!!!

Welcome to Illinois. Enjoy the winter cause soon it will be time to shine up the ride and take it out. I'm not out that way but I'm sure if you ask kindly on the great lakes forums someone will help you with anything in your area.

Thanks Eric!
Actually we just got back last night from Algonquin, IL where we are moving to. It's about 1/2 hour from Schaumberg where my wife will be working. It's a pretty small city but everyone I've talked to said it's a nice place.

I used to live in Rolling Meadows, real close to Schaumburg. I like Algonquin, almost bought a house there years ago. You'll have to try Port Edwards Restaurant for Sunday brunch sometime. One of the best around. Although we now live in Michigan we get to Chicago area several times a month. Still have family in Romeoville and Elgin. If we schedule a M&G anywhere near there - I'm in. Welcome to the area.

Algonquin has just exploded in the past 4 years now. Very crowded and a whole lot more traffic lights now. Still has some of the small town profile. I stayed in Unincorperated DuPage County, as the housing values are some of the highest and taxes are still somewhat civilized.

we actually moved to Algonquin instead of Schaumburg and are moving again this week to Cary from an 18 year old house to a 5 year old house. From a lot of kids in the neighborhood to GODDAMN THERE'S A LOT OF KIDS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. From a really good area to a moreso really even more gooder area!! LOL :bahdumcha:

Welcome!

I live in Lake In The Hills (LITH), right next door to Algonquin. Good choice on staying out of Cook County! It is THE most corrupt county government in the U.S., IMHO. I grew up in Glenview in Cook County, mom still lives there.

I can give you lots of info on the Algonquin/LITH/Crystal Lake area. PM me and we'll get in touch.

BTW, I commute every day from LITH to Schaumburg, so I can give you the lowdown on all the commuting routes/surface road alternatives.

Again, welcome!

Thanks Iguanaman, thank you too Irish!!
Actually this thread is closing in on being a year old now. We've since moved again and are now in the even SMALLER but nicer village of Cary! Still getting used to Illinois, though.
Not sure where we will be next year. With my wife's company it's hard to tell, but I'm really liking our new area.
My buddy (DALTON) and his MSRT8 are only 4 houses down the road and we're now both part of the local LX car club.
