To post pictures in posts, you first must have them uploaded to a photo hosting site such as www.photobucket.com. One uploaded, you copy the url of the photo FROM your browser window, and in the posting box, hit the "Insert Image" button just above the post box. In the pop up box, paste the URL of the photo and then click "Okay." The forum software will appear in you post as code, but when entered, it will be viewed as the picture located at the URL.

A posted picture would look like this:

Code:

Right, that's hardly the way to have the site issues resolved, now is it? :) Let's all register our own domains on GoDaddy so we can link to our pictures on forums. And when those registrations aren't renewed, or any directories get changed on our domains, the end result is the same: "Image not found" all over forums everywhere. :blam:

Did this ever get solved? I can't even upload a legible picture from my desktop off of my google drive. it will look the size of a thumb nail when I'm finished pulling enough info out of it to upload.

Nope. After you've uploaded 2 or 3 pics to the forum, your quota is a ridiculous 3 KB or something. That's probably not even enough to add your own emoticon. The only solution is linking to other sites or shared hosting sites, which is pretty silly. Oh, you could register your own domain and host your pictures yourself there, but...yeah.

Please explain how this is a bad idea for ANY forum? And don't bring up the cost of disk space, with disk space being so cheap these days, that argument doesn't fly. I'm interested to hear any other reasons why it's a bad idea.

Lots of valuable information is being missed on this site without people having the ability to post proper pics. I did the Photobucket thing until they tried to ransom my pics... A lot of other sites allow pics to be uploaded from your desktop without any issues. This process on here is like jogging with a sore d#$k... lol

You do; I pointed everyone to just one means of posting pics in post #128...

I use the Google photos method and it's very easy.

If you take pictures with a digital camera and have an actual computer, not so much. You have to upload them elsewhere and link them. Should that 3rd-party host ever crap out, every pic you linked there will no longer appear on any forums you linked them to.

test via Desktop using Hemissary's recommendation

Who wants to bet in 2 years from now, most of these linked pictures no longer work? Just go through the past 10 pages of this topic, or any topic on this forum, to see for yourself. This is my point regarding the biggest failure with using linked 3rd-party hosted pictures on forums: so many things can happen to break those links, and you end up with a forum full of text and mostly "missing/broken image" placeholders. How useful is that, to the membership at large? I want to browse through the "Show off your wheels" thread but most of them don't work. I want to see how to remove the upper balljoints, but the pics in people's helpful tutorials don't work. The whole benefit of a forum like this is image sharing, and permanence is a huge part of that. By not allowing members to upload images directly to the forum, there's an excellent chance that a majority of those images will stop working years later.

The cost of disk space these days is a non-issue, so let's not bring that old argument into the equation, please.

I don't care if this pisses people off, it shouldn't...it's the honest-to-God truth. I'm on a bunch of other forums and this is the only one that has such restrictions to image uploading, yet cannot grasp the consequences of why this could actually be detrimental to the forum. This isn't a bulletin board system from the 90's, for Pete's sake.

Test using Tapatalk, not ScatPackForums on iPhone 7+

I actually thought “Tapatalk” (ScatPackForums) didn’t work for me via iPhone, but it seems to work fine with the true Tapatalk app.

I see your point though that Tapatalk is still a 3rd party.

Instagram - does it work here on the forums? I figure FB bought them for a billion dollars 10yrs ago, so they should be around for a while, like FaceBook. I just got back into autoforums... I've already hit my allowed limit, posted like 5 pictures, lol.
