Hey people. Im wanting to upgrade my '07 Charger R/T rear stock gear box with a stock SRT8 (05-'10) 3.09 gearbox but have some questions? Could I use my existing axles? Could I use my existing hubs? I do have the Diablo Sports i2 inTune which I will be able to change my gearing in the computer. Thanks!
You will need new axles and hubs. If you use a 2012 SRT rear diff, it is a three bolt flange just like on your car, so you won't need a new driveshaft. You'll need pink bolts and nuts for the rear diff coupler, new axle nuts as they are single use only.
gearbox typically means transmission. You're wanting to change the differential (diff), or more specifically the rear gears if it will be just the gears in the housing, and not the whole differential.
"Differential" or "rear end", "rear gear". Stock rear on yours is open rear, most likely 2.82. Stock SRT rear those years were 3.06 (3.09 is 2015+) and ALSO open rears and not only will you need to swap axles and hubs, but the back half of the driveshaft as well. As mentioned, a 2012-14 Getrag out of an SRT car gets you the 3.06, an actual mechanical limited slip and you don't need to futz with your driveshaft, just get the correct coupler. If you're interested (and maybe somewhat near MD) I have a full set 3.06 Getrag, axles and hubs that I was contemplating selling.
Not inside the case, you'd still have to swap differential, axles and hubs. Basically you have to decide if you want open rear or factory LSD.
