VTCM Beta Testers Thread

This thread is for the discussion of the VTCM made by TRS300 (Tim) of LX Custom Solutions.

Beta testers are encouraged to discuss there experiences both good and not so good with the VTCM. We should also share our suggestions for future product development.

This thread would also be a good place to ask questions regarding the installation and operation of the VTCM and it's associated software.

I know Tim has put in a ton of effort to make this product available. I am very thankful to Tim for doing this.

I will make a new post soon to share my experience with the install and driving performance of the VTCM.

Hi,
Has anyone installed this in a 2n gen charger or challenger? Or one with the Super Track pack, which when you push sport mode, the tranny shifts more like it should firmer, quicker, and shifts at a higher rpm the more the pedal is pushed towards the floor. It also holds 4th gear much longer. I wonder how the sport progarmming relates to the VTCM various modes. The car also tends to shift closer to 6k rpm if it is driven agressively regualry. it raley shifts at 5.6k in sport mode and your floorboarding the car.

I can't tell if I want one of these or not. Sounds impressive though.

i just put one in a 2006 Charger SRT8... and didn't get a chance to set it up, as I didn't have a Windows computer handy at home...

I setup it up while at work and put back in the car for the commute drive home .. basically no tuning from default Mode 1 and Mode 2 settings, just changed config for SRT8 tires and rear end gearing..

there is one spot where i can get it up to + 30 in non-stop and go traffic every time... I put into Mode 1
needs some tuning to make it right for my car... but ... WOW!!!!, even tuned all half-ass... this is like the car that your stock SRT8 ate and swallowed... totally different.

I can't wait to get it dialed in.

I will say, I was not satisfied with the T taps to connect on the transmission wiring, and there was no damn way i could get onto those wires, based on how it was routed in my car, so I snipped the wires to at the manual shift box, soldered in a wire splice with wiring extension, shrink wrapped over the splices. I have done similar to tap into the CAN B and C bus in my car at the steering wheel, and had already spliced in 4-way Y connections on the CAN C and B bus, so i just T-tapped the VTCM onto one of my 4 CAN B connections...

Fit and finish is very prototypish... That's not a bad thing, as you get developer support which is very responsive, high quality, knowledgeable etc (vs say HP/Dell/Cisco)... that said, it is really well thought out how to get on the TCM outputs and not have to splice/T-tap / cut them. The install is not hard... but expect some issues will crop up, and plan for a few hours, make sure you don't need to travel anywhere for 8 and either have all the stuff or a 2nd car to go get stuff if some issue comes up mid-install

Tranzformer is a good product. Period. But it DOES NOT DO what the VTCM does. Hijacking threads on the forum is common. But this hiJaak is both misinformed and done in poor character...

Jaak, is it possible for you to not mislead everyone into thinking these two products do the same thing? I've posted the differences between them countless times already...

<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

For those who want to understand the facts please read this thread or PM me...

Pay attention to post #9. http://www.lxforums.com/board/f58/moved-vtcm-v2-plug-system-306650/

Post 22 on this thread also... http://www.lxforums.com/board/f74/vtcm-v2-vs-tranzformers-326462/index2.html

I've seen you hijack more than one Tranzformer thread to promote the VTCM... you're like the pot calling the kettle black when it comes to hijacking.

Jaak is one of the most informed and reasonable guys on the forum; there was no intent to mislead on his part.

If people are confusing the use of your product and not understanding the difference or benefit to the TZ, then that falls on you for not explaining well enough.

Thanks.

Both products do things within the limitations of what's possible.

The best way to communicate what is actually done is to trim off the fluff and state facts on device operation. That's how you minimize confusion.

I know how the TCM interface to the transmission hardware works and how it can be manipulated. I also worked with other members offline on it, before products existed.

Have fun!

Hey Tim,

I apologize for jumping in the way I did above; I regret posting that and it probably wasn't very fair of me to say some of that. Sorry.

If someone understands the expertise that goes into making the VTCM, and then disrespects it, they would make themselves look very foolish.

No worries... But thanks for the follow-up. I've made some hasty posts in the past that I've regretted too. So you're not the only one.

I do speak often about the different efforts that are being worked on that involve the NAG1. And I'm always trying to learn more too... When I do talk about one or another I think I'm being pretty objective and fair about the statements I'm making. I want folks to understand the differences so that they can make informed choices. That is what this forum is about IMO, helping each other... Selling things has always been a lower priority. Mostly it's a way to cover development costs and to share my work with others.

Once you get into how the TCM interfaces with the NAG1 hardware it becomes clear that it's not rocket science. Of all the folks who have done "Shift Firmness" related work for the NAG1, I give a huge nod of respect to David (351Freak) who created the Silver Box. It's one thing to build a better widget on an existing idea to make it better... It's a whole other thing to dream up the Concept / Idea to begin with. David's work is the pioneer work that started the ball rolling. David deserves a lot of credit for most of what followed. The Silver Box opened to door to the more advanced controllers that we have today...

I'm surprised that we still do not have the $10 mod that removes engagement lag when placing the car into Reverse or Drive in our "cheep mods" knowledgebase. lol... If anyone is curious about how to do this PM me... :)

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Getting back on subject; Maybe I do need to work on trying to be more clear or simplify what I say when I post. That is constructive input that I can understand and work on.

Anyway, Thanks again. Shows good character on your part to post a retraction.

Best Regards,

Tim

Cool, all good then.

There's a lot of good info in that link. It'll take me a while to understand what it all means but that's a good thing.

I remember when David began posting here with his SilverBox... there was QUITE a buzz and tons of interest. The Hemi community is small enough as it is and we're lucky to have guys like you and Joe spend the time to become such experts... no doubt with input from guys like Jaak.

With my 2006, I've been through the MPTCM ( which didn't fulfill what I needed), the Silver box, which worked great, and upgraded to a Builder Bill tranny.

Apples and oranges there.
The Tranz allows me to set each parameter as I need. Basically allows me to set my parameters where I want them. It works well for me as a control device.

I bet a BB Trans is a huge improvement. So are you saying that a BBT comes with a custom TCM that you can adjust shift targets, ramps (or tables)? I did not know that... If that's the case that is way cool... Is there a link or documentation on what you can do with the BBT?

Cheers!
