How does she feel at the end of the quarter with those skinny's going over 100?

#3 ·
Can't tell the diference.

I (carefully) tested them to 120 MPH around home.

As long as you don't try any high G turns they feel just fine.

They exibited a slight bit of radial run-out when balancing & there is a very slight bit of bounce @ 120 MPH but @ 1/4 mile speeds, nothing.

They will not be practical for driving to the track unless you know that you will not encounter any severe dips or speed bumps as the nose sits a bit low owing to the "raked" stance due to the 26" hieght.

Great job and thanks for passing this along.

Question: Would you also benefit in weight (and maybe lower the effective overall gearing depending on tires) by using 17" steel SE wheels on the rear? Not sure if they'd clear the calipers though.

The wheels alone don't make for a lot of weight savings & 4 1/2" wide tires on the back would not hook too well.

The tires only weigh 11# ea & the wheel/adaptors weighs 22#ea, 33# OA. The BFG KDWS 245/55R 18s weigh 32#ea while the stock wheel weighs 24#ea, 57# OA. One could go W/the lower profile BFG or Mikey Thompson drag radial for the better effective FDR.

The Centerline wheels W/the 325/45R 17 M&H Racemasters still yield a 14# OA (7# per wheel/tire) weight reduction over the stock wheel/tire combo. The forged aluminum wheel & the kevlar belts of the tires make for a very light weight combo for such a large tire.

I will try to get some "static" pix from the side next time I have her all "shod" for racing.

As this is basicly a track only mod you might be OK if there aren't any speed bumps in the pits.

Those are the 17" V6 spare wheels. The adaptors are needed to shift the wheel out so it will clear the caliper.

I was going to do custom 30mm spacers but the thickness would have required special lugnuts & the adaptors, although just a bit thicker than needed, were the cheapest way to go.

They actually came out about right as far as the relationship to the wheel well.

A 17" X 4" custom wheel W/2" backset (-1" offset) would be perfect & would probably shave off another 20#s.

You could very well do that, but the "tempoary use only" emblazened on the tire might not pass tech inspection.

#14 ·
put them on after inspection lol.what if you have srt brakes.?

#15 ·
Well, for one thing, HEMI~C~ tried to run the "donuts" @ MIR & got flagged off of the track while staging. Any track that does any real tech inspection is likely to do the same.

The next time he showed up, they made him put an "X" on his windshield so they could keep an eye on him.

For those that question the handling characteristics of the DOT approved M&H "frontrunners.

Of course they willl not corner like OEM tires but in a straight line under hard acceleration they seem to track better than the OEMs. Perhaps the higher contact pressure due to the smaller area footprint has something to do W/that. Also, the striaght rib design may have something to do W/it.

They work well @ what they are designed to do, keep you going in a srtraight line W/minimal weight & minimal rolling resistance while providing stability even @ 120 MPH or more.

Hey GUys, this is great for the fronts, but what's a guy to do when he wants to put some seious drag meats on for the rear? And on an SRT8 no less. I've been toying with the idea of haveing a custom set fabricated, but I do not really think that is cost effective of the budget racers that the majority of us are. Dan, ya got any suggestions for rear wheel combo for an SRT8?

#22 ·
so if we get the RT 18" spare and get the kinda tires you got, we would still be flagged?

#30 ·
I know how hard to get connsent track times, but have you noticed any gain in you times? Thanks Mikey

#32 ·
Funny you should say that as I was just looking at the thread this morning. I looked at the M&H website and did not see whether the tires recommended are radials or biasply. I'm running biasply rears so don't want radials up front. Anybody know?

I rode one of these.... So I'm used to things that skitter all over the place when under power. LOL! Well, OK, I had seven of them at one point... Kawasaki Triple fanatic confession.

Just ordered some M&H tires, some adapters and am searching for some spares.

FYI M&H just got some more 17" skinnies in today. Adaptitusa said it takes 10 days to get adapters so order early if you want these.

Anybody have a problem with being able to trip the staging lights properly with this setup (especially SRT8s) since it lowers your car a bit? I think DVSSRT8 had a problem like that at Sacramento Raceway.

The only drawback to the skinny's is the 26" height reduce's roll out so you can't stage as shallow, can't really get as good a rolling start on the timer. But the reduced weight more the make's up for it.

i always stage with my rear wheels anyway :Na_Na_Na_Na:

Where did you find the option for the 14mm upgrade? Couldn't see it.
In the text under the photo of the adaptor it says to call for stud upgrades.

A word of caution: I paid a small fee for the upgrade, a buck or 2 per stud. ($1.50 I think) I once heard of someone being quoted a much higher fee & they where given some BS about haw much it cost to have this done.

All of these spacers are made to order & 14mm studs should cost just a few $.01 more each. There should be little or no real added cost to do this upgrade.

Don't get gouged or let them talk you out of the upgrade unless you want to deal W/ 2 sets of lugnuts & 2 different socket sizes.

Sorry - you beat me to my deletion. That one was a motorcycle tire...

I saw 18" x 7" and thought... but no. Motorcycle tire. Also expensive, like you say.

But I was thinking if I didn't have to pay for two new 17" spare wheels, then I save $140 right off the bat. I already have two 18" LX spares.
