SRT Engineers Round Table Discussion

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013 5pm - 7pm ET

We are welcoming back the SRT Engineers to the LxForums!

The ground rules:
  • First off, the SRT Engineers take time out of their busy schedule making go fast goodies to be here to answer our questions. Let's show them the proper courtesy and patience. There will be many questions and they may not be able to answer every question asked. If your question is skipped, please be patient as questions are not answered in order.
  • Please only ask one or two questions. There are lots of people who want to ask questions, so let's give everyone a chance.
  • Stay on the topic at hand. SRT Vehicles! Keep the off-topic chat to the other sections of the website. There is to be no discussion between members in this forum. Ask your question and enjoy the replies from the Engineers!
  • If your question has already been asked (by you or someone else). Don't re-post it in hopes to get it answered quicker.
  • Make sure you let the SRT Engineers know what model SRT vehicle you are driving or inquiring about. Yes, a head gasket is quite different between an SRT8 and an SRT4.
  • As much as everyone is salivating over what comes in the future, the SRT Engineers cannot answer any questions regarding future product.

I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie which I like a lot and I have a Charger SRT392 for weekend cruising.

How much is the truck specific 6.4 HEMI is different for the SRT392 HEMI?
With 5.7HEMI making 390HP/400lb.ft in its most powerful form, how The truck specific 6.4HEMI is more significant when it is only making 410hp/425lb.ft?

Since each of the SRT models has its own aerodynamic characteristics, what would be the positive or negative attritbutes of adding an aftermarket rear diffuser to a 1st gen 300 SRT?

As average vehicles become faster and faster, and our performance vehicles reach the HP ratings of super cars from only a few years ago, one would assume the horse power war must be nearing its peak.

What do you anticipate the next challenge or driving force in design to be?

It's been a while since SRT has had a product on a brand new platform, and given Chrysler's new parents, how much of this presumably newly accessible technology, materials, and suppliers are making the inner engineers in all of you squeal with delight? To rephrase, how excited are you guys for SRT's super secret, can't-talk-about future? And how close to the edge of our seat should we, as car enthusiasts, be?

I have issues with a gas cap. Gas cap was tested, did a smoke test on a vehicle, checked the cannisters under the rear seat and still have an error, is there anything I am overlooking to get rid of the GAS CAP code on the EVIC? Is there anything I am overlooking without replacing the gas tank? Is there a TSB or a recall on any of this? I have an '06 300C SRT8, thanks!

You should have someone go through the entire evaporative system to check for any leaks or misrouted lines.

Ok, we're tired of hitting the refresh button! So, we're asking some questions now too...

Is your SRT your daily driver? Weekend warrior? Cruiser?
A weekend cruiser. I've always leaned toward Mopar performance with this modern selection of cars worldwide. Circumstances afforded me the opportunity to have an SRT, and even if it wasn't quite the SRT8 I was dreaming of, I've cherished the opportunity as a young twenty-something to be a responsible owner and driver of such an awesome car, and as of right now, it's plenty fast enough for me. But there's always room to grow.

My Charger 392SRT is a weekend cruiser and I keep the performance page on the HP/ Torque gauge.
one thing if you can add or do, is to have the Sport option on all pages and not only one page that I have to go back to.

also how can I turn the radio off on the Uconnect2 since every time I start my Ram the radio comes on?

With regards to the 6.1 Hemi and the Aluminum blocks, does the SRT Engineering team have a preference for which head is used in various applications?
For example, in stock displacement 6.1, would you recommend one particular head over another for a nitrous engine vice a strictly boosted combo? What about a large cube aluminum block?
Besides intake valve sizing, what are some of the factors that affect your choices?
Besides the obvious flow requirements, at what point does displacement affect which head you would choose?

Thanks!

-and to answer your question, my 6.1 powered SXT is my daily driver and satisfies my needs at the strip for now.

Thank you for taking the time and coming to the LX again! I drive my 426 daily. I love knowing the only car at work that can take me in the 1/4 mile is a CTSV that cost with mods 3x what my car does! Thank you for building a car that I can rock a booster seat in the back, afford on a normal human's salary with a wife and two kids and spank 99% of the daily driven cars on the road.

Are you going to be adding radio/nav updates in the future? I ask because there hasn't even been a Gracenotes update put out for the new systems. These are complex computer based system that should be periodic updates/enhancements just like any other consumer device. You wouldn't buy a phone or computer and never get updates for it. Harmon Becker did a great job of sending out updates for the Mygig based units. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Panasonic.

The radios are supposed to be receiving regular updates (with purchase after the first year). We're not aware of any delays but will check with our audio group. Unfortunately won't be able to get you an answer tonight.

Hey guys. Thanks for hanging with us tonight.

I have a 2007 Charger SRT. I love the car. It is my daily driver (why would I want to drive anything else...duh).

I love the SRT Brand. cant wait to see where you guys go in the future. I have 2 ques.

1. How competitive do you guys feel you will be in the 2014 Tudor sportscar championships?

2. Dodge Stealth? Any chance of seeing an Stealth SRT6 or SRT6? Something small, agile and fast with some real power.

We are looking forward to the 2014 TUDOR Sportscar Championships. We are proud of what we accomplished this season, coming together as a team so quickly and we learned a lot about the race car. We will be coming out swinging.

Having a new 2013 SRT8 Charger, are there any plans to offer custom mopar valve covers for the 392?
Can you give a break down on the numbers by color selection on the 392 package? How many white, red, purple, orange & silver they produced? And are there any plans for future limited editions? Yes or No, I know you can't give any details?

It seems that our platform has an interesting identity in that some see them as Quarter Milers, direct descendants to the muscle car era, others identify with the Modern Muscle identity, we have some that hover (dangerously LOL) close to the Tuner scene and of course others that see them as direct competitors to German GTs.

Is this something you have as a team identified? Is it a challenge at all while considering design direction?

#101 ·
Yes thank you. Wish I was in earlier, but let me say the launch button on the GCSRT8 is one of the coolest details ever!
