SRT Engineers Round Table Discussion

Wednesday, Sept 21st 5pm - 7pm ET

The ground rules:
  • First off, the SRT Engineers take time out of their busy schedule making go fast goodies to be here to answer our questions. Let's show them the proper courtesy and patience. There will be many questions and they may not be able to answer every question asked. If your question is skipped, please be patient as questions are not answered in order.
  • Please only ask one or two questions. There are lots of people who want to ask questions, so let's give everyone a chance.
  • Stay on the topic at hand. SRT Vehicles! Keep the off-topic chat to the other sections of the website. There is to be no discussion between members in this forum. Ask your question and enjoy the replies from the Engineers!
  • If your question has already been asked (by you or someone else). Don't re-post it in hopes to get it answered quicker.
  • Make sure you let the SRT Engineers know what model SRT vehicle you are driving or inquiring about. Yes, a head gasket is quite different between an SRT8 and an SRT4.
  • As much as everyone is salivating over what comes in the future, the SRT Engineers cannot answer any questions regarding future product.

Without discussing future product, is it possible that a turbocharger instead of a supercharger is up for consideration? Seems to me that using a supercharger would only be following suit with Chevy and Ford (something that Chrysler has not made a habit of doing). Why not follow the likes of AMG, M Power, and Porsche who have seen tremendous performance gains by use of smaller displacement and turbochargers? Is the cost simply too great?

Just seems to me that aiming at the German competitors would be more advantageous.

As you noted, we can't talk about what we may or may not do in the future, but turbocharging and supercharging are always up for consideration. That's the best we can do on the future product front.

This is the first time I have seen a THREAD from the SRT engineers and I'm really excited to read all these posts. And THANK YOU ALL for taking the time.

I honestly HOPE this is NOT a redundent question...

I have an 06 Magnum SRT and at 7,100 miles had to have the pads replaced by the dealer.... a few hundred miles later a HUGE break squeal. Taking it back to the dealer they told me my rotors were SHOT ~ I don't even drive mine hard; ONLY a few WOT take offs. Anyhow they put new "slotted" rotors and new pads again at 8,000 miles. My question: I currently have just turned 11,000 miles... should I be wary of having MORE brake problems?

Secondly, my car had a HUGE lag at WOT take offs and between each gear. After having it checked out; was told my computer program was written on 4/20/05... Does this sound plausable to you all? Would you suggest having something rewritten?

Thank you all so very much. This SRT is such a DOG, thought about getting rid of it.
Suggestions????

If your brakes gave you problems without the slots, the problem is you are driving it too easy. The brakes are performance components and are designed to be used. Drive an SRT like and old lady, and she won't like it.

There are a few calibration upgrades available for your car. Have the dealer flash them in.

Questions for Eric H.

1. Were you the one who was behind the wheel when the ACR just recently broke the record at the Ring? (Congrats again, team!!! What more is there to prove with that car anymore, it's destroyed everything?!!!)

2. Assuming you're involved with the next Viper, are you confident that the next snake will exceed the accomplishments and limits of the 2010 car?

1) No. I haven't been able to go either time. Too busy here in Detroit. Hopefully next time.
2) PR won't let me answer this one, yet!

Since you don't have any formal tours in Germany, how about the next time you guys are at the Ring, swing down to Ramstein AB (we're only an 90 minutes away) and visit with us military folks. We'd love the visit and perhaps we can set-up an autobahn poker run or a cruise along the Mosul or Rhein rivers.

Have considered Jenny Craig? :) Seriously though, the first thing to go would be the interior, especially the rear view mirror. "What's behind you doesn't matter".

if you were looking at a 'off-road use only' situation.. is there any low hanging fruit as far as weight reduction goes... sure would like to drop a few hundred pounds??

also.. any chance of getting manual locks and crank windows on the aforementioned lightweight stripper srt8?

I love the performance EVIC (I think that is what it is called). It would be nice in addition to what you already have on there to offer 0 to 30, 0 to 40, and 0 to 50 timers. That way we can easily test some performance changes and launches.

Thanks for building tremendous vehicles at SRT.

I have 2008 Challenger SRT8, 2010 Charger R/T AWD, 1970 Challenger R/T 440 Magnum 4 speed and love them all!

I've taken my 09 Challenger SRT8 6 speed to the track a few times. I've heard axles are the weak link in these cars so I'm basically rolling it out and powering it up{stock F1's}. I'm averaging 13.2's and 13.3's with the shaker hood and hopnot being the only perf. modifications. I have dumped the clutch around 3200 rpm and got it down to 12.9 once. But it was a cold day at Atco. My questions are am I being to careful? Will this drivetrain handle harder launches? And are these times about right for this car? Thanks.

Did you just pass this question by accident

Is there a stop-lock setting in the TCM that stops the converter from locking and if so at what stall rpm does it stop the converter from locking.

Is there any way around this besides getting a tighter Converter

Thank You

What is the reasoning for effectively eliminating the aftermarket modding capability for 2011 and up vehicles? Don't get me wrong... I / we (SHR) are diehard MOPAR people. It is just frustrating that daily we have to tell people that 2011 and up Chrysler vehicles have to stay stock. Oh and yes we know you can mod 2011-12 Fords and Chevrolets.

Maybe you could void the powertrain warranty and sell some sort of software key per vehicle? What do you think?

Look how far this community has come since we have had tuning capability! Did you think you would have LX's knocking on 8 sec 1/4 mile passes? This will NOT happen on 2011 and up vehicles without tuning.

I fear if you do nothing, Modern MOPAR vehicles will disappear from racing, magazines, car shows, etc... And Ford & Chevy would be all that is left. It would be a repeat of the 80's.
