SRT Engineers Round Table Discussion

Wednesday, Sept 21st 5pm - 7pm ET

The ground rules:
  • First off, the SRT Engineers take time out of their busy schedule making go fast goodies to be here to answer our questions. Let's show them the proper courtesy and patience. There will be many questions and they may not be able to answer every question asked. If your question is skipped, please be patient as questions are not answered in order.
  • Please only ask one or two questions. There are lots of people who want to ask questions, so let's give everyone a chance.
  • Stay on the topic at hand. SRT Vehicles! Keep the off-topic chat to the other sections of the website. There is to be no discussion between members in this forum. Ask your question and enjoy the replies from the Engineers!
  • If your question has already been asked (by you or someone else). Don't re-post it in hopes to get it answered quicker.
  • Make sure you let the SRT Engineers know what model SRT vehicle you are driving or inquiring about. Yes, a head gasket is quite different between an SRT8 and an SRT4.
  • As much as everyone is salivating over what comes in the future, the SRT Engineers cannot answer any questions regarding future product.

I have a 2006 300 SRT8. I've heard that changing to newer spring mounts will get rid of the annoying clunking over bumps. What else can I improve with parts from a newer model. I' ideally like to make the steering less heavy and improve road feel while maintaining the luxury ride that you'd expect of a 300. Part numbers would be great, but I know you guys are busy, so whatever help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What he said. I'm curious, which of the "new and improved" suspension components would fit my '06 and make a noticeable difference? Also, is the 2011 SRT steering wheel retrofittable (is that a word?) to the earlier models? Thanks!

Why cant the Challengers come with a convienance spare tire in the car. The mini compressor is useless.

Why cant the after market make tuners for the 392 Challengers.
Thanks
1) The minispare does not clear the front brake caliper. Looking at the frequency of needing a spare tire these days and the fact that everyone has a cellphone to call for a tow, it is not worth carrying the extra weight. Feel free to install the minispare and jack out of the regular Challenger. If you get a flat on the front, put the minispare on the rear, and put your good rear tire on the front.

2) They haven't broken the code, yet. It is a rolling code, like your garage door opener! :Na_Na_Na_Na:

I am seriously leaning towards purchasing a 2012 Jeep GC SRT-8 over the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon. There are pros and cons to both vehicles and since I haven't been able to drive the Jeep yet, I can't say for sure. But my big concern with the Jeep is the legacy W5A580 Five Speed Transmission. We keep hearing rumors about an 8 speed ZF unit, but nothing definitive. Care toshed some light on when it might be available for the Jeep and the rest of the SRT line?

We haven't announced anything regarding an eight-speed transmission for the Grand Cherokee SRT8, so I don't have any info. to share on that. What we can tell you is that our five-speed automatic transmission is a proven performer, capable of handling the torque the 6.4-liter engine puts out, and with it, the all-new Grand Cherokee SRT8 delivers incredible performance, and certainly exceeds the performance of its predecessor. In addition, with the very wide torque curve of the 6.4-liter engine it minimizes the advantage of the additional gears.

Also, for the first time in any Jeep brand product, standard paddle shift technology is featured on the all-new steering wheel. Paddle shift joins the standard AutoStick on the floor to allow a choice of spirited shifting on the road and the race track.

I own a 2010 300C and was wondering is it possible to install the brembo brakes from the SRT8 300? Will the stock 300C master cylinder and proportioning valve work with the Brembos? What other changes will be required?
Thanks
Upgrading to a SRT brake components is a quagmire. The calipers won't even bolt up to the knuckles, which are SRT unique. On top of that, the ESC calibration is TOTALLY different, and your base ESC controller will ramp in way too much pressure to control the car. Same with ABS because the SRT brakes are significantly more effective. You really need a wrecked SRT to take the whole ABS system and front and rear knuckles off of. There is no prop valve on cars anymore. That is handled electronically via EBD.

Will a vortech off a charger fit my 300c srt8??? Lol. Some of you guys are asking questions that could be answered in literally a matter of seconds if you just pick up the phone and call one of our hundreds of vendors. Their numbers are on their vendor section page!

The crank will physically fit..yes...however you'll crash valves without a reduction in valve lift. The Tone Rings have been changed...yes they are interchangeable...make sure you change your crank sensor too if you do that.

Will a 6.4 production crankshaft fit in a 5.7 6.1 2003-2008 hemi?
I know the crankshaft toner ring has been changed since 2009.
Will the toner rings from earlier hemi bolt on a production 6.4 crankshaft?

392 challenger

On some of the forums they are saying that the new 392 intake manifold has a built in oil separator/ catch can. I believe they are mistaking the PCV system for a factory catch can. Can you please clear this up. I am not talking about if a catch can is good or not but is there a built in catch can in the intake manifold. Thanks for your time. My wife loves the new challenger and is buying me a 2012. How could a guy be more lucky.

Your correct, its the PCV oil/air separator and not a catch can. The flow path is from the passenger cylinder head into the separator and then back into the intake. Through the separator, you'll find a series of baffles that work with gravity to separate the oil from the air.

I have a production question on the 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8. With the help of some friends I have been able to get the VIN number to every 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 built. My research says that 239 cars were built; this does not include the "last" assigned VIN# 2D4GV77338H248827 that was "Not built"? It was never delivered to Musselman's Dodge in Baltimore, MD. As you are aware these very rare cars did not come with a dash plaque so we have no "written record" of what car, is what production number from Dodge in some form of "writing"! While I can provide proof of my research by use of the VIP Report's and Star Network Report's as to the build dates of the 239 cars. It means nothing without some sort of writing from Dodge to prove what VIN# is really what production number car. I have contacted Dodge Customer Service and the response has not been helpful, or productive. I was lucky to be able to get a Media Packet for the 2008 Magnum which has emails and phone numbers for Points of Contact at Dodge, but they are no longer active points of contact? While I feel very confident in the reports and research I have on all the 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8's. I, we owners of the 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 would be so grateful if you guys were able to help me, us by providing a point of contact at Chrysler that would or could actually help in either concurring with my supporting documents or providing the information on the production numbers and Vin's assigned so that we can have a true historical record for the future of the car. Every response I get from Chrysler at the levels I can get to is "Production numbers are not available as they are proprietary"! As we all feel that the 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 will be one of the very rare SRT8's in the future due to the fact that it's the lowest production number SRT8 made to date. I am hopeful that you guys could help in getting Chrysler to provide this proprietary information. I ask why it is "Proprietary" when Chrysler have and still provide production number plaque on SRT8 vehicles. You may contact me at 08MSRT8Steelblue@gmail.com I am hopeful that you guys can be helpful in providing us 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 owners this information. FYI I also have started a list of totaled 08 Magnum SRT8's which currently number 2, production number 66 VIN# 2D8GV77348H103875 Torred Red Car #16 and Production number 86 VIN# 2D4GV77348H202553 Black Car #86. Oh by the way my research says I own the last Steel Blue Built car 29 of 29. Thank you for help in preserving the future of this car.

I love my new 2011 Challenger SRT8-392!
But I am having one problem which after reading these boards, seems to be prevalent.
My power steering sometimes loses power in low-speed parking maneuvers.
Had it to dealer a few times, but since it is a sporadic issue, & it can't be duplicated at the dealership (of course), nothing can be done!
Why is this a common issue, & What should I do?
Thanks!

I am NOT an SRT owner. I have stolen SRT tech for my Magnum RT and absolutly love the effect! Kudos to the entire team!!! 253,000 miles and I expect 400,000 miles out of the beast before retirement (hers, not mine), I have run my RT on Mont Tremnblant and Mosport with basicly STOCK SRT configuration and had fantastic results. Yes I am an extremeist, but it's all good. Thanks again!!

bigjim

PS, if you happen to be at Brampton ASSY Sunday, please make your presence known!:beerchug: Mine is the black one with the sign in the windshield that says 410,000KM

What is the reasoning for effectively eliminating the aftermarket modding capability for 2011 and up vehicles? Don't get me wrong... I / we (SHR) are diehard MOPAR people. It is just frustrating that daily we have to tell people that 2011 and up Chrysler vehicles have to stay stock. Oh and yes we know you can mod 2011-12 Fords and Chevrolets.

Maybe you could void the powertrain warranty and sell some sort of software key per vehicle? What do you think?

Look how far this community has come since we have had tuning capability! Did you think you would have LX's knocking on 8 sec 1/4 mile passes? This will NOT happen on 2011 and up vehicles without tuning.

I fear if you do nothing, Modern MOPAR vehicles will disappear from racing, magazines, car shows, etc... And Ford & Chevy would be all that is left. It would be a repeat of the 80's.

With the above frustration in mind, will the super charger that Chrysler/Dodge eventually puts on the 392, be stuck with a canned tune or will it be open to the aftermarket for custom tuning? Will there ever be a 426 SRT?
