SRT Engineers Round Table Discussion

Wednesday, January 26th 5pm - 7pm ET

The ground rules:

  • First off, the SRT Engineers take time out of their busy schedule making go fast goodies to be here to answer our questions. Let's show them the proper courtesy and patience. There will be many questions and they may not be able to answer every question asked. If your question is skipped, please be patient as questions are not answered in order.
  • Please only ask one or two questions. There are lots of people who want to ask questions, so let's give everyone a chance.
  • Stay on the topic at hand. SRT Vehicles! Keep the off-topic chat to the other sections of the website. There is to be no discussion between members in this forum. Ask your question and enjoy the replies from the Engineers!
  • If your question has already been asked (by you or someone else). Don't re-post it in hopes to get it answered quicker.
  • Make sure you let the SRT Engineers know what model SRT vehicle you are driving or inquiring about. Yes, a head gasket is quite different between an SRT8 and an SRT4.
  • As much as everyone is salivating over what comes in the future, the SRT Engineers cannot answer any questions regarding future product.
This thread is now open for you to post your questions!

2009 Challenger SRT. Will there be any adverse affects (e.g., throttle body corrosion) if I mount my water/meth nozzle right in front of the throttle body as pictured below? It's my only option for now since the adapter does not have enough thread length to protrude through the plastic intake tube. Plan B would to be install aluminum piping and weld in a bung. Thanks for all you do!!

We don't really promote such actities but you will get very poor distribution by injecting ahead of the throttle body and you will likely get pooling ahead of the blade when closed. If you live in a cold climate that will cause problems.

Once again I would like to thank you guys over at SRT for taking the time and patience to answer all of our curious questions. We feel honored that you have chosen our wonderful forum :thumbs_u:

I realize the bean counters do everything possible to keep these extraordinary machines competitively priced, but I'm sure that your also aware they are still far out of reach for the majority of your customer base. This recent economic downturn has left alot of us craving for the raw power and the attention an SRT package brings.

So cutting to the chase here's my question: What do you guys think about upbadging? meaning applying SRT visual cues such as OEM SRT hood scoops, badges, bumpers, fascias, wheels and fake Brembo caliper covers to a non-SRT vehicle. Do you believe it gives the SRT a bad image and tarnishes your reputation when a lesser car such as a Camry, humiliates an SRT clone out in the streets?

I have noticed this has been becoming a recent phenomenon lately and would like to know your take on it. Thanks

You'll never get rid of the clones. I must say, I grin when I see a V6 with an SRT8 hood, its definately a huge compliment to the SRT styling. Anyone that knows performance GM/Ford/Dodge knows the clones in each ... the people who don't know are of no concern to me.
....someone having trouble selling an SRT Design PL SRT4 ??? LOL

Is any mpg benefit (or possibly an explanation on how an mpg benefit might emerge) when accelerating at around 2700 rpm vs. gradual acceleration at 1800-2200 rpm, as far as achieving good city mpg figures in typical use?
Generally speaking, you'll have better mpg at lower rpm unless your seriously lugging the engine. Best city FE = light pedals, short shifts and get it into 5th or 6th gear as soon as you can.

I have a 05 SRT-10 with automatic transmission. There are two issues i would like to discuss. 1. Is it natural for the very hard shift between 1st and 2nd at low speeds? is this going to damage anything? What can i do to wake this engine up with out keeping my foot in the intake? It seems to be very lethargic when driving around town. Thanks and keep up the great work? I for one appreciate all that you do!!

You may want to have dealer check out transmission if it shifts hard at low speeds, maybe condensation in transmission. Also check fluid level... could be partially filled torque convertor.
Haven't gotten many concerns about lack of power on 6.1L ...have you considered running leakdown check to ensure all is ok ?

Will the SRT Driving Experience ever have any Canadian stops? I imagine your 2011 calendar is set by now, but future considerations?

I know I have been called each year in the last few years to ask what I think about that idea. We have some great tracks up here.....common up!

Btw.....glad the program still exists South of the border. Been to it twice and you guys put on an amazing event.

You're right about the 2011 schedule - it's posted online. Thanks for the positive feedback but you'll have to keep lobbying for us to come up ...

hello,

is there any way to get a flash file for an 06 srt instrument cluster that will include the new performance package pages.

now i have all the flashing tools but if i flash my current cluster with 08 +software the cluster stops working becuase it can no longer receive information from the pcm. however the digital screen will work and the performance pages exist. but the guages dont work. again they are not receiving info.

so i obviously have all the flashing tools is there any way to add those features to an older model cluster.

my next step is
1 swop out pcm for newer model type ie 08+ and or
swop out fcm setup for a tipm setup found on newer 08 plus vehicles. when i mean swop out fcm i mean rewire etc.

Unfortunately, there is no software flash available for the performance pages prior to 2008My. Also, the two sets of hardware are not compatible with each other.

Is there ever going to be any tuning help given to the aftermarket?
My next vehicle purchase might not be a Dodge because of the lack of help on the custom tuning side of things.
Also a better tcm flash for the 5-45rfe would be nice, especially for the trucks, so we dont toast the overdrive clutches over, and over, and over again....

Can you provide part # for new motor mount on 2011 SRT Challenger?

Exhaust crossmember. close to the origial muffler

I have upgraded cat back exhaust on my 2010 Charger SRT8 to include 3" stainless steel tubing. I'm in NC and its cold now and with the stainless steel expansion in the cold I get a horrible rattling of the exhaust against a crossmember that seems to be in place to keep the exhaust in place if it should drop.

Question: can this cross member be safetly removed? It doesn't seem to be large enough to provide any structural integrity.

Thanks for your time!
Curt

Perhaps if the question was introduced this way:

What, in the past, has been the reasoning in the past SRT8 models and the current 392 models to not super/turbocharge the engine from the factory?

Welcome Engineers!!! I know they are Federally mandated at time of production & sale, as I used to install them on Grey-Market cars in the 80's, but how can we disable the excessively loud, mind-numbing "Key in the Ignition" chime? I've been thru the service manuals numerous times, with no luck...not to say I didn't miss it. Is it a "Programming Thing"? Do the police Spec cars have them? Thank You, D.C.Winters in Colorado

Due to the "Federally Mandated" nature of the chime, we cannot sell a vehicle without it and thus, we don't have a programming trick to turn it off or turn down the volume. Sorry about that : (

You can write your congressman though...

Does the new 392 use the same piston and rod material as the 6.1? (powdered metal)

Hello guys,

1) when i had my 2007 SRT charger. when I auto sticked I could start from a light in 2nd and hold that till 3rd. Now in my 2010 SRT charger, when i auto stick, if i start in 2nd it will automatically jump back in first, and i have to bump it back in to 2nd then 3rd... any thoughts?

2) Is there any talk of having the SRTs come completly forged??
