First off, the SRT Engineers take time out of their busy schedule making go fast goodies to be here to answer our questions. Let's show them the proper courtesy and patience. There will be many questions and they may not be able to answer every question asked. If your question is skipped, please be patient as questions are not answered in order.
Please only ask one or two questions. There are lots of people who want to ask questions, so let's give everyone a chance.
Stay on the topic at hand. SRT Vehicles! Keep the off-topic chat to the other sections of the website. There is to be no discussion between members in this forum. Ask your question and enjoy the replies from the Engineers!
If your question has already been asked (by you or someone else). Don't re-post it in hopes to get it answered quicker.
Make sure you let the SRT Engineers know what model SRT vehicle you are driving or inquiring about. Yes, a head gasket is quite different between an SRT8 and an SRT4.
As much as everyone is salivating over what comes in the future, the SRT Engineers cannot answer any questions regarding future product. This INCLUDES 2010 line products.
This thread is now open so you can start posting your questions.
Can't go wrong with cold air, catback and suspension. Note, while these parts in and by themselves don't void your warranty "hard driving" or "racing" will !:blam:
Okay two quick questions.
I own a 07 charger srt-8 with intake/diablo chip and a 180thermostat along with a block mounted oil cooler, ~410whp.
I had cut the catalytic converter (suit case) and the muffler restrictors, so it's basically straight piped. Those cutouts were replaced with the right sized pipe to cover the cut.
Will this cause a major loss of back pressure? I haven't throw engine codes, also will it cause a loss of power. What else does it do that is harmful to the engine?
Also what do you guys think about using Motul racing engine oil. Will I see a decent gain?
It is a significant plus IMO that the marriage between Daimler and Chrysler benefited the LX platform specifically; we understand that the (5.5/6.1) LX platforms share a similar drivetrain (from the transmission back) as the Mercedes E55 series.
What percentage of the LX platform's electronics (both s/w & h/w) was transplanted/tweaked from Daimler Benz? Thanks!
It has been speculated that the air temperature sensor in the intake can be affected by the surrounding intake material that its anchored in. Is the sensor so sensitive to temp changes from this direction/source?
If I compare the SRT intake to the RT version, I see the RT unit sits inside that airhole that leads down low, while the SRT unit sits on top of it and there's a gap thanks to that little rubber bumper. Also the SRT box is hogged out in front. Assumedly this was all done to increase airflow capacity. What if anything did you lose by doing this, with respect to air charge temperature? And if you did lose something, was the loss meaningful to performance?
If you look at my signature pic (previous post) you can see what I do most often in my Magnum. On Laguna Seca a G-meter measured maximum lateral g's at momentary peaks as high as 1.25 both left and right (top of the Corkscrew) and maximum braking g's at 1.10 (dropping down into Turn 2). In terms of sustained values I'm over 1 g more than I'm under it it seems. I'm running Hoosier R6 rubber to get these kinds of numbers.
Given that kind of abuse, what should I look to in terms of stress failures? Recognizing that this is tough on all of the car, if it were you what would you be checking before every track day?
was there a design change in the piston for the 2009 model year? we know there is a definite weak point when run in a boosted application on the 2006-2008 motors but there are guy running more boost on some 2009 challengers.
Hey Gents AND LADIES,
Great meeting you at the LX and Beyond.
It means a lot talking with you face to face.:thumbs_u:
Thanks for answering all my crazy questions in Ohio.
See you all in Charlotte at zMAX in May 2010!
Very Sincerely,
BuilderBill
I would like to thank those involved for their time, it is much appreciated.
This is a curiousity thing that I have not seen any definitive answer for as of yet. Why is the copper content so high in Hemi engines when the oil is analyzed? My car as an example had a level considered critical( 280 ppm) at the 6000 mile mark. This apparently is not uncommon for the few of us that get analysis done to find. It is not my bearings as there is no tin or lead present in the oil, just high levels of copper. Not to mention the car holds 29-30 psi hot idle oil pressure. My car has no external oil cooler so what is the oil reacting with to create the copper? It apparently calms down over time so I assume it is a chemical reaction. I have yet to have my 9000 mile oil change analyzed but will do so soon.
For reference sake a family members 5.7 Hemi truck also had a higher than normal copper PPM at 30000 miles. So this is not isolated to the 6.1 or the SRT's.
Thanks, first of all!
Catch cans are a VERY popular after market item for the 5.7 and 6.1 Hemis. Is there any reason why these should/ should not be used?
Thank you for coming to LX Forums and allowing us to ask questions. I have enjoyed my LX everyday I get to drive it.
I would like to know if any more thought has been put into the suspention bushings or the suspention in general? Many of us have had bushings or suspention parts replaced or gone to after market parts to try to extend the lifetime of these parts.
A question on WOT. At freeway speeds 110kph / 70mph, when punching the throttle to pass or accelerate, I have noticed a hesitated, surging acceleration. When this happens I back off and continue at normal speeds. I mentioned this to another member with an 2007 Super Bee at a meet, and he recognized the same type of symptoms. To this day, we can't figure it out. Again, it is very intermittent, but when it does hook up normally, well, we all know the feeling when that happens.. When you take it to the dealer, it's like going to the doctor, they can't diagnose anything out of order. Hopefully there may be an answer.
Thank you for your time.
I thought of this on the way home from the LX and beyond and was mad at myself for not asking out in the parking lot Sat night, BTW it was great to have you guys there
What if any is the difference between the R/T 5.7 fuel pump and the SRT 6.1 fuel pump.
OK, it's 6pm! Welcome to LXForums.com SRT Engineers! We truly appreciate you taking the time out to answer our questions and chat with us about these incredible cars you guys make.
When you guys are designing a performance oriented vehicle, can you rate in order the following hurdles you must overcome from the biggest to smallest?
A) Cost
B) Maintenance
C) Performance
D) Reliability

At SRT (understand the Gearhead bias now) we tend to view Performance and reliability with equally high importance. After that our cost guys start to chase us around the facility so we must submit. While the maintenance catagory is last here we do assemble and disassemble all our products personally to assure there are no unnecessarily difficult service procedures.

I want to be able to run full diagnostic proceedures on the car. I was wondering if and where I can get software that will allow me full access to my computer can control of all engine and body modules. I want to be able to turn module on and off at will is there anything out there that will allow this??
In relation to the above, many of us have corroded pistons in our brembo calipers and dealers that are unwilling to replace under warranty... any news of a TSB?
I am going to have to agree we should have some sort of longer warranty on SRT models compared to the base models. We as SRT owners pay more to have the SRT experience and in my opinion we should have a longer warranty. I am a car dealer in South FL and I do know why we as SRT owners only have a 3 year or 36,000 miles warranty. Only reason I can come up with is the price for parts. It must cost much more for our cars to be fixed (mechanical) wise. I do understand we have an option to buy an extended warranty, but in my opinion we shouldn't have to purchase it if we pay close to 35-40k or more on a SRT vehicle. Is their any other reason why we dont have a longer term on our warranty other than the one I came up with? What other SRT vehicles are in the works? Can you disclose any? Has the new Chevy Camaro affected the sales of SRT models? Thanks
Just one simple question. Is there anyway that I can special order a WHITE SRT? They make them in White for the RT and the SE. We spent the larger amount of money for our cars and can't get the color that the cheaper cars have. WHY? Thank You!
Please let the bean counters know that we all would gladly pay an extra couple of $$ at purchase time if the vehicles were equipped with lug nuts that don't self-destruct after the second removal.
A couple of times when I used the autostick and then go back to using drive that when slowing down and then letting my car coast at about 30km it takes a long time for the rpm to come down. But while it is taking time to gear down if I upshift and then go back to drive again the rpms go down like it should. Is the computer relearning? Is this OK?
Thanks for your time.
Robert
