Buyer and seller beware! We've had reports of some very odd scams forming on the LXForums lately. Please, do your research before exchanging $$, parts or services with anyone. Do some extreme vetting of your own. Check their rating, check prior posts, get referrals, use an Escrow service, phone a friend. Also, do not enter your user name and password into any links or odd looking URLs. The latest scam involves someone who cloned the LXForums and was asking people to log into. I'm assuming to get login credentials to run other scams on the site. I'm talking about you Viperking (you little prick). If this happened to you please change your password ASAP.
If something seems weird please report to the staff and proceed with caution.
You need to delete the ones that post publicly too, so others don't mistake the offer of knowing someone with a part and they email them inquiring about something and get ripped off. Not everyone knows how these scammers work online...
Both DarrenKen and Dwaynenot share similar info:
joined in April/June of 2020, still active?
Both have 10 posts.
Both show locations in Africa: Ethiopia & Zambia.
and Both provide similar free services.
I wonder if their location was based on real IP address, or fake IP generated by VPN?
Are you accessing the forums on a computer or phone? If computer look at top right of screen for the red "FOLLOW" button and try tapping it to toggle un-follow.
Something potentially really ugly/nuanced going on. I am getting the impression that some bad actors are watching sale posts for "I'll take it" type expressions of interest, and contacting the interested buyers by EMAIL pretending to be the seller, and actually closing the sale (paypal payment collected). All without involvement or awareness by the actual seller.

Apparently happened to the other bloke who expressed interest as well. He chose to ignore that dm/email request having thought it suspicious (luckily).
Not even an expensive item. These attack vectors getting quite sophisticated, even for seemingly low margin things.

Yeah this was me. I said in my post that I thought I sent him a DM but wasn't familiar with the new websites way of messages or "conversations." I get a message in my inbox from a scammer, trying to pretend to be Stylz, saying they didn't get my message (but yet they messaged me ) and provided an email and phone number to call. It was an obvious scam to me so I just block or deleted it.
Someone has it out for me? They are pursuing another interested buyer in an item I have for sale here, and trying to hit them up for money. Disgusting.
I would suggest that when you post any ad, that you state you will only message from your LXF account and that if anyone receives an email, to message you in LXF to confirm legitimacy.
That is a good idea. The account they used to try and scam me with was an account that was not created today so likely this person’s account was hacked or they made this account in the past with hopes of doing this. Either way a lot of work for a low dollar item. Is there a direct way to reach a Mod on here or should I just post the account used in the scam attempt?
A moderator pointed out there is a Report link that we should be using. They will take action on these. Of course they will make a new account so we just all have to be careful.
be careful with this idiot, is trying to scam me using another user name selling part from Beverly Hills.
Walk away from Matthew Blair is a total Scammer
The Ranger 5G and 6G boards briefly spun out of control last year. Numerous Canadian IDs claiming to be from around Canada sprung up after another Canadian ID from Manitoba(?) was finally 'banned for life' after being suspended numerous times. One of those IDs hijacked the board (claimed to be from Ontario) and began banning those who were critical of the original offender.
To us, it appeared to be just one person using numerous 'sock puppets'. A similar ID appeared on one of the 300 boards (this one?) in recent months with an identical 'modus operandi', except he was now driving a super low mileage 300 SRT - Signed up a decade ago with no other recent activity. I called him (it) out and 'they' promptly disappeared. To this day, I have ongoing issues when I attempt to sign in to the Ford Owners website and Ford Merchandise website.
Keep in mind that 'Rangers' are also a prominent group of gay leather men. The connected 5g board on Facebook had degenerated into an image board of half naked men in provocative poses along side of various off road vehicles.
Yes, I also own a 2019 Ranger Lariat Super Crew-cab along side of my 2020 300S Alloy Edition. My 4th new Ranger since 1988.
That's sad!
Perhaps meet in person makes more sense if/when possible. Other than that, sending money to anyone on any forum is a bad idea, too many shady sellers, and some are sophisticated scammers.
Agreed, and the problem remains, scammers are using all available platforms-including eBay's Money Back Guarantee- to extort money and goods from innocent people. What is worse IMO is the aftermath feeling of trust betrayal, and/or losing trust in others.
