Any 3rd Gen Dakota experts around?

I'm looking to pick up a used 3rd Gen Dakota crew cab.

Towing is a priority for me.

I know the max capacity is 7200 lbs, when properly equipped.

So, my question is, what constitutes properly equipped?

The 4.7 V8, I assume. But what else? Is there a tow package option I should be looking for? More than one thing?

And how best to tell if a particular truck for sale came equipped with it?

Thanks a ton.

The 4.7 is a great engine. That’s what is in my quad cab 4x4 and it’s only had a few issues after 215,000 miles. If towing is a priority for you, the tow package has the hitch, transmission cooler, and a few other things so look for that but you might be better off with a 5.9 engine.

Awesome, thank you. The search has cooled for now, but good to have this info for when it heats up again.
