New England Mopar Club is happy to announce the official thread for:
If you've been before, and for those that may be new, we make a weekend out of it with festivities beginning Friday night and lasting through to the early morning hours of Sunday.
This year is going to be a little different. For those that want something a little extra, and want to drive a few extra miles for a worthy cause, we will be doing a sunrise event as well as the sunset, all separated by 200 miles and lots of fun.
The plan: Sunrise Luminary event, remembering those we have lost and also those that have survived cancer, on top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Mt, Desert Island, Maine (sunrise is about 4:45am-ish I think). Then...drive to Mt. Washington for the sunset!
The details: In conjunction with the American Cancer Society, we plan to make this a fundraiser so that we can raise money for the fight against cancer.
The Particulars with options:
Trip Option #1: Friday night in Bar Harbor (still working out accomadations) for an EARLY rise to drive up Cadillac Mountain for the sunrise. Then Saturday night in Gorham at The Royalty Inn.
Trip Option #2: Two nights in Gorham at The Royalty and Saturday can be free time to sightsee and or kick back and relax until dinner time and the mountain cruise.
****It is extremely important that you post up in this thread letting me know how many plan to attend and what trip option you are going to do. I need to firm up hotel reservations in both towns and need a firm headcount.****
The Royalty Inn: Please read carefully - two prices for the two options - Reserve your room now as they do not charge your credit card until you arrive
The rates include lodging plus use of the Royalty Athletic Club, Jacuzzi, sauna, and both the indoor & outdoor pools. We will also offer you the conference room at no additional charge.
Your group members should be advised to call (603) 466-3312 ext. 0 and ask for a room in the NEMC room block.
From Conrad, the manager:
I have currently blocked 30 rooms for 2 nights (Friday & Saturday) at a rate of $109 plus tax & fees per night. - Option #2 (The rooms blocked for two nights are all rooms with 2 queen beds)
I also have an additional 30 rooms blocked for 1 night (Saturday night) at a rate of $119 plus tax & fees. - Option #1
In the room block for one night we have 25 rooms with 2 queen beds, 4 rooms with 1 King bed and 1 room with 1 queen bed (the queen bed will be at $109 plus tax & fees).
The rooms will be held until Friday July 14[SUP]th[/SUP], at which time, any unreserved rooms are dropped so that we have a chance to sell them.
Bar Harbor lodging:
Ok...so I underestimated lodging costs for Bar Harbor in peak tourist seasonanic:(....since we are normally up there in October - the off season).
Rooms are going to average right around the $200 and up mark, depending on if you have AAA or other discount available to you. For this oversight, I humbly apologize!! That and, because of August being peak tourist season, no hotels want to offer group rates. The hotel chain that was willing to reserve a block of rooms, wants a 25% deposit to hold the rooms...and right now, NEMC can't foot that bill.
So...with much hesitance, I will have to advise folks to make their own hotel stay arrangements in the Bar Harbor area. I really don't like doing this, but I'm afraid it's what has to happen. We had initially planned on staying at The Best Western (link below) as it is about 3 miles from the park entrance, and in a very convenient location. Michelle and I plan on heading up Thursday, late afternoon and staying that night and Friday night.
The Best Western Acadia Park Inn: (<-- link) They are still closed for the season until sometime in April, but reservations can still be made online.
